[The image above danced as an ad on almost every Holonet channel possible. When selected, it presents a message in the voice of a heavily accented Voss.]

To all outsiders,

It has come to the attention of the Voss that our people are perceived as xenophobic and close-minded. For this we apologize, and we hope that this message reaches all citizens of this great "holonetting" in good health. It is our desire to extend an invitation to the strange and numerous beings of the galaxy in friendship, and by the guiding of the Mystics that both Galactic Republic and Sith Empire will see the error of war for but only a day and act peacefully to one another in our great event known as Fal'aru.

Fal'aru is a celebration of life, the Mystics guidance, and the good fortune that graces the galaxy and all of it's creatures. Our traditional events will cater to the poor and wealthy alike, even the warriors of the universe will be able to test their mettle on our Arena of Strength which is open to all who wish to show their dominance of the martial arts. Those of you who wish corporeal sustenance will not be disappointed in the service we have attained who will craft galactic favorites as well as unique Voss cuisine which we wish to share with all freely.

To those who value culture and intellect, we Voss will provide outsiders a space in our Tower of Prophecy to weave past tales of excitement and intrigue. Those with the most well-formed tales will be rewarded, as we hope all outsiders will by participating in our unique, sacred culture.

May the Mystic's visions guide you.

[With the end of the transmission a number would be shown: a serial number for a diplomatic license to visit Voss-Ka at the second to last festival day of the month.]

- OOC -

Date: Februrary 25th, 2012.
Time: 7PM - 9PM Server Time.
Place: Voss-Ka, Voss. Map further below.

The Ninth feels that there's not enough events going on.. so we decided that with the help of the community we can all make something great. Fal'aru is the first of (hopefully) many 'festival' themed events that are placed on the neutral worlds of The Old Republic.

It's no normal event, though, and it will require participation from other guilded and unguilded people alike to be something truly memorable - and hopefully a monthly occurrence. If you or your guild wishes to help with any aspect or create another event that happens in Voss-Ka for this event, please feel free to contact Norredi in-game on Republic side or to PM me on Enjin and you'll be coordinated with!

- Events -

All events in Fal'aru will be starting at 7:00PM Server Time and will run as long as they need to, but our hopeful estimation is that it runs until at least 9:00PM Server Time.

  • Event 1 - Arena of Strength: A tournament-style arena where combatants may test their mettle in physical, unarmed combat. A hard credit reward will be given to the victor of each individual bout as well as to those whomever wins the grand finale. Due to the inability to see the future, sentient outsiders will be allowed to bet on each individual fight.

Those who wish to bet on this event will have a mediator which will keep track of all bets placed, but there is a hard cap of ten thousand credits for each bet, and you may not bet twice on a single fight. The tournament will include both spots for 'roll' role-playing (which will be held by a trusted unbiased adviser) and duel role-playing for the level 50's who want to smack heads with one another for a credit prize.

  • Event 2 - Voss Cuisine Extravaganza: The kindly Voss seek - above all - to spread their understanding and culture to the galaxy if they are to be the object of a tug-of-war between the Republic and Empire. This event is geared towards characters who wish to have a simple date while trying a new culture's food. Patrons will have choice of ordering their food from the cantina or being seated in one of the two restaurant locations where they will be given privacy for but the waiting staff.

Voss and other galactic foods alike will be tended freely without price, but tipping the faithful waitstaff would be a kindness that the universe will reward you with in the future.

  • Event 3 - The Past Retold: Standard for any storytelling event, volunteers may take the floor in the Tower of Prophecy to retell a true or fictionalized tale of their past. Unbiased judges will vote for fiveoutsiders with the greatest story and they will be blessed with a diplomatic gift from the Voss-Ka Mystics.

What a wonderful idea for an on-going event! And my character is going to full-on love the "culture" of the event. :d

I like the prospect of roleplaying on Voss and having a real reason to go out there, however what I do not like is sort of the backstory to the event. Its pretty much stating that the Voss have completely decided to revoke their isolationist and xenophobic culture to bring everyone they can to the planet to...Have a large, cultural party. I like the prospect of Voss, I think its a great planet--but I'd rather have an event that focuses more on the very delicate political situation and the Voss attempting to keep their own ways against a torrent of new and complex ideas being pushed on them by both Republic and Empire. I don't want to see an entire culture morphed to some new idea just as an excuse to have a party on a different planet.

And to be quite honest, with the -incredibly- delicate political situation going on on Voss, I wouldn't see either side exactly encouraging cantina crawlers to go there. All it takes is one drunken bar fight and the fuse is lit.

I assure you it's not all of the Voss, nor do I intend to act like all of them - even any of them - approve of it. This is the vision of one mystic who isn't as xenophobic as his brethren, but he still views outsiders as children without guidance. If you'll notice the wording of the IC portion he's more akin to saying 'outsider' like 'child.'

RANT
I think it is totally okay to go counter to what an overall culture tends to exhibit. I think RPer get too obsessed with compliance with lore, when in fact that it very unrealistic play. Not every American is pleased with the actions of the American government or military. Not every Chinese person, is happy with the state of their politics and cultural bias.

Societies not only create counter-culture all the time, they celebrate them and events take place all the time that are counter to a society's general political state. Not every Twi'lek is quiet and aloof, not every Sith is arrogant. These are their tendencies, sure, but to RP outside those lines is acceptable. This is why lore mongers start to perturb me, they simplify, narrow and reduce the breath of RP, not enhance it. It becomes dogma, when real lore and real culture is much more subjective, tenuous and malleable than that.

If you plot Voss on a bellcurve, Norri's event here is plotting somewhere outside main lump in the middle and that's good, because those things happen in a real culture. Not everyone in Mos Eisley was a scum or a villain. It was full of them, but that doesn't mean every single person in that town had to meet that exact criteria.

I support this event and others at X support this too. Some members will be in touch with you about internal support for this, others are merely going to attend, others will support it externally.

I am going to offer external support, which is I am going to bump this thread from time to time and encourage my members and friends to attend it. In general, any event like this is going to get our support, because as much as feasibly possible, one of the OOC tenets of our campaign is to integrate with the community. That just as important as our IC mission, is our OOC mission which is to support RP on Adraas, particularly server-wide events and plots.

I see this event as a superb place to network with people. It's bi-factional and at some level has a political theme to it. It's an exercise in detente. We're in a cold war and detente social functions and rallies were a significant part of the real Cold War. They often took place in the most culturally backward places too.

Where did the Civil Rights movements hold most of its rallies? Oh that's right in Alabama, the most segregated state of them all.

X is all about the destruction of xenophobia, racism and the license to enslave other races due to cultural traditions and the constructs of elitism and power mongering. It's all about the decentralization of power.

I realize this is just an art faire, a social event, something fun for us RPers to gravitate to and enjoy. But there's a subterfuge of politics here as well: the galaxy is a messed up, paranoid place. The circumstances are hurting everyone. The economy is stagnant, there's danger everywhere and mass destruction looms. The spirit of the event, unity and acceptance is one many in the galaxy would naturally gravitate to.

That makes the event's theme and concept just excellent in my book.

Also this is a chance to exhibit some alien pride, creative talent and a desire for peace in the galaxy.

It's a superb idea. I support this 100%.
