Star Wars: The Old Republic, continues this trend. From The Black Talon to The Brentaal Star, just looking at a ship's name can give someone a clue to its origins or to the person and the crew who pilot her. A ship is more than just a way to get around, to hop from point A to point B. To our characters, their ships are their homes (and for others it's their livelihood as well). With ships having such a deep connection to our characters, naming them seems the next step. Names of ships aren't to be considered lightly, as they reflect the personality of the character as a whole.
The names of the ships for my own characters vary greatly. From my smuggler's Nothing to See Here to my Sith warrior's The Death's Hand, they reflect something I try to make apparent with even how the characters are played. So my question to you is simple; what does your character name their ship and what made them choose it?

In this week's The Darker Side of Life, we're going to be going into a topic that many RPers struggle with and argue over. Just how much of the time can you be in-character? In the article on roleplaying BioWare's story, we touched on using the class stories in-character. This time we're going to dig deeper and include the rest of the game too. There is more to the game than just the stories. If you happen to be standing around the Galactc Trade Network on your faction's fleet base, are you still in-character? Some players refuse to use voice chat, not because it might give away that your busty Twi'lek waitress as some hairy guy, but because once you know what a player sounds like, their characters might start sounding like that in your head too, instead of whatever accent they may be trying to portray.
For those of us that have been around RP communities a long time, there are also the people we've run into that refuse to communicate OOCly with other players as well. All they do is roleplay; everything else is shunned. Is that the apex of heavy roleplay, or a dangerous lack of communication that will lead to unnecessary drama? The question at the heart of this week's column really might be how much of our community is OOC.
Read on as we break down different activites and review community responses from The Darker Side of Life thread on how people feel about doing those activities in-character. Through this we'll attempt to find a line that can be used to guide people about what is IC and what is OOC. After all, once you've finished levelling, many players will find that their time is spent doing different activites like PvP warzones that don't lend themselves as well to roleplay as a Flashpoint might. How do we deal with it? Read on and we'll try to figure it out together.

Earlier today, A Republic warship named Brentaal Star escaped a skirmish in Imperial Space. It is unknown what ignited the space battle, though reports indicate that the Thranta-class starship contained valuable information. Upon leaving Imperial Space, the Brentaal Star was intercepted by another Imperial Vessel, a Gage-class destroyer called the Black Talon. Yet again, another space battle erupted, and we can only conclude that it was in the Empire's interest to either capture or destroy the Republic starship and its valuable contents.
Satele Shan, Grand Master of the Jedi Order, commanded a fleet of 16 Republic destroyers to intercept the Brentaal Star to ensure the safety of its crew and cargo from the Empire's grasp. Sources have revealed that the Grand Master made contact with the Black Talon in order to uphold the peace treaty between the two factions. However, the Empire was quick to shut down the Jedi's peaceful efforts. And who would be responsible for such oppressive behavior by ordering the attack on the Brentaal Star? The Butcher of Coruscant: Grand Moff Kilran.
Upon returning to Republic space, the crew of the Brentaal Star refused to comment on the result of the battle, but we did learn that among the casualties were Jedi Yadira Ban and Commander Ghulil. What the valuable contents consisted of and its fate are unknown, though Grand Master Shan commented on the battle. "The peace between the Republic and Empire is fragile enough already." She further stated, "Incidents like this are happening across the galaxy, and only because we let them."
What this means for the peace between the Republic and Empire remains a mystery, but CBNS will continue to provide you with the latest breaking news updates.

Approximately seven hours ago, Republic vessels crossed into Imperial space attacking a squadron of Dreadnaughts. Grand Moff Rycus Kilran, Commander of the 5th Fleet, intercepted the Republic attackers. However, one Republic vessel did escape the skirmish: a Thranta-class warship named the Brentaal Star. According to initial unconfirmed reports, the Brentaal Star was carrying key cargo from Imperial space.
Thankfully, the Gage-class transport Black Talon was within range to intercept the Brintaal Star. Although we are unable to reach the captain of the Talon, Revinal Orzik, to confirm, we received word that passengers aboard the Talon assisted in retrieving the stolen cargo.
Much of the information regarding the specifics of the cargo, as well as the condition of the Black Talon crew, are classified. However, reporters from INBN witnessed Communications Officer Ensign Hetter and Security Coordinator Ensign Brukarra leaving the Talon’s transport shuttle on Dromund Kaas. Unfortunately, neither were available for comment. However, Kilran commented, "This is only one of the many operations we are now conducting around the galaxy. Citizens of the Empire should be proud. It’s a new beginning to the war. With one step on Dromund Kaas, you will see what we are fighting for.”
We are unsure what Kilran’s cryptic message means, but rest assured INBN will be there with the latest on this breaking story.
