In the latest of my RHN sponsored safaris across the galaxy, I came across what many refer to as the most dangerous beast in the galaxy, except for a fully-grown Rancor: the Gundark. Resilient, strong, and extremely violent, the Gundark mostly hunt and wander in minimal numbers, much like fully grown Rancor do.

Unfortunately for us sentient beings, the Gundark has one trait that the Rancor sorely lacks: intelligence. Many Hutt Cartel animal trainers found that most Gundarks aside from fully grown males die in captivity after a small amount of time, and most males need to be put down as they're both smart enough to figure out when their tamers are the weakest and strong enough to ensure that the attack usually results in their freedom.

The only known form of successful captivity for the Gundarks are when the big-eared beasts are placed into gladiatorial arenas. When their bloodlust is sated, many 'champion' Gundarks on planets like Geonosis last months, if not years, as long as their needs are met.

In the wild, Mandalorians and big-game hunters see the solitary ape-like creatures as a test of mettle, often setting elaborate traps or engaging in heavy duty guerrilla warfare to gain the bragging rights of killing such a beast. With such treatment, it's not sure if the innate violence they exhibit is nature's way of striking back or simply verification of the rumor that these beasts were brought about by the dark side's sorcery.

Whatever the case may be, I was unlucky enough to see a Gundark in action. Five well-trained Republic mercenaries were thrown like toys and our safari skiff was all but scrap for the junk pile. Only after copious applications of cryoban grenades and concentrated fire-and-retreat tactics did the safari guards and the game master manage to take the vicious beast down. The game master of the safari – a scarred Chagrian – informed me that if it were a fully grown male then both I and the other survivors would not have had the time to run.

It is my humblest opinion, then, that the Galactic Republic never invade Dromund Kaas. Eventually the Sith will find that the wily, sharp-eared Gundarks are more willing and able than any Sith inquisitorial commando squad and just as effective!

Republic HoloNet Story Report

The Star Wars saga has had an interesting cast of characters often working with those whose personal beliefs are scarcely different than the other party in spite of a mutual goal. Jedi have acted as commanders in The Old Republic to troopers who were openly distrustful or skeptical of the mystical space monks and their abilities in combat. Sith and Imperials, as well, often work together in tentative partnership, the latter party usually afraid of the awesome power of a Sith Lord.

As our characters move through the relived aggression between Republic and Empire, many characters who have never worked with the military will now have to do so. Flighty Smugglers or over-aggressive Bounty Hunters may have to operate with those of strict authority and firmly held governmental beliefs, often along with Force users who are just the 'odd one out' as any civilian is.

This Reporter's question is this: Will your character work with the military? Be they civilian, ex-military, Sith, or Jedi, there is always the chance that the armed forces may need your character's skill. Will they lend their aid begrudgingly and follow orders or press the issue and become a leader amongst those below their social station? Tell us in the comments!

Regardless of what you may be drawn to first, it is likely that you will eventually browse through some of the latest articles posted by our esteemed Reporters

Each and every day, the Reporters at SWTOR-RP provide the roleplaying community of The Old Republic with fresh new reading content in the form of our daily Force Reflections, in-character articles and codex entries, columns, and the latest SWTOR news.

None of this would be possible without the continued support of our members. And just who makes up the Reporting team? The answer is simple. Our team of Reporters consists of members who want to give back to the community that they support. If you're looking for something more, or you want to utilise your creative edge, why not fill in an application and join the team?

As the Editor-in-chief at SWTOR-RP, I'm always looking to add to the talented group of people that currently make up the Reporting team. They each add their own flavour and style of writing, and your own unique and imaginative abilities could be added to that team. I simply ask that if you're a motivated individual with a sound knowledge of Star Wars and the ability to write, you take the time to fill out our staff application. When you see the list of job openings provided in the application, be sure to check the "Reporter" box. I will review your application personally. I hope to see your application in the list.

Happy writing!

Star Wars fans are a very opinionated bunch; in fact, it is sometimes hard to find two fans of the franchise that can agree on much of anything. The deservedly infamous Star Wars Holiday Special seems to exist outside of this bubble of conflicting opinions, though; pretty much everyone agrees it is really, really bad. The cult classic has a reputation for being embarrassing, hilarious, and horrifying in various degrees. But are all Star Wars holidays destined to be so campy and pointless?

In-game holidays are a staple in many MMOs. Perhaps the most extreme example is World of Warcraft, which manages to replicate just about every real world holiday with corresponding in-game events, such as themed items to collect and special quests to complete. Star Wars: Galaxies was also host to many Star Wars-themed holidays over its long run, such as Life Day (Christmas) and the Ewok Festival of Love (Valentine's Day).

In a game like World of Warcraft, which is filled with pop culture references and doesn't take itself too seriously, holidays are normally well-received within the community as an added bit of fun. But in Star Wars: Galaxies, there was very much backlash from players--especially roleplayers--about how silly and out of character some of the events seemed. At the same time, many would argue that in-game holidays are meant to be taken as something fun and lighthearted, which means they are not necessarily part of the epic main storyline that a game presents.

Is there really any harm in having holiday events, even if they are a little bit silly or nonsensical? Would you prefer holidays were kept completely out of The Old Republic, or do you eat them up? Do you only enjoy more "serious" holidays, or are the silly ones just as fun? Make your voice heard in the comments!

Appearances are everything, right? How do you tell if the person you're looking at is a drunk cantina patron, or a Sith Assassin ready to pounce on you? In this week's The Darker Side of Life, we'll be taking a look at force sensitives and how to spot them properly in roleplay. It's not always as simple as just looking for the lightsaber. That creepy man in black robes standing in the corner might be a Sith Lord, or just the old janitor. Force sensitives can sense each other, right? After all, Darth Vader could sense Luke in the shuttle heading for Endor. Kreia, though, managed to use a ritual to hide her own force sensitivity from others to keep herself alive. Without a character bio, how in Hoth are we supposed to tell?

The Old Republic has a new an unique system for us as well. The Sith/Darkside Corruption mechanic actually changes the character's appearance as they accumulate Dark Side points. Skin becomes pale and veiny, eyes become orange, then red. But is that even enough to assume someone might be a Sith, and how does that help with Jedi? Miraluka can see the force, so shouldn't they be able to tell light from dark? How do they do it? Can they just examine someone and look at the little force slider?

The real question is when does any of this cross a line into metagaming? It's that we'll seek to answer as we examine each of these methods in turn to elaborate just how it is appropriate to tell if another player is force sensitive. Join me as we dive into this issue, highlight your responses, and work to come up with a way to navigate the minefield of interacting with new people!

No matter what kind of character you play, you'll eventually find another character trying to put 'the moves' on yours just like Lando Calrissian would to anything pretty enough to catch his eye. Even some Jedi, like the eternally theatrical Anakin Skywalker, tried his best to flirt with his future wife, Padmé, much to the chagrin of anyone with a brain or acting experience.

In games like The Old Republic, flirting becomes a fun opportunity. Whether you like it or not, half of the time people walk into a cantina there's going to be a fair amount of winking, cheesy one-liners, and needless shoulder rubbing much like Lando's discovery of Leia upon her arrival to Bespin.

Be they spies looking to get information from an Imperial citizen with pretty eyes and loose lips, or a Sith attempting to turn a naive Jedi to aid the dark side, flirting is a powerful tool that many characters can use, abuse, or run away from like the plague.

What about your character? Do they flirt to advance their goals, or do they just have an eye for good looking things and a mouth big enough to voice it? Shout it out in the comments!

Earlier today, A Republic warship named Brentaal Star escaped a skirmish in Imperial Space. It is unknown what ignited the space battle, though reports indicate that the Thranta-class starship contained valuable information. Upon leaving Imperial Space, the Brentaal Star was intercepted by another Imperial Vessel, a Gage-class destroyer called the Black Talon. Yet again, another space battle erupted, and we can only conclude that it was in the Empire's interest to either capture or destroy the Republic starship and its valuable contents.

Satele Shan, Grand Master of the Jedi Order, commanded a fleet of 16 Republic destroyers to intercept the Brentaal Star to ensure the safety of its crew and cargo from the Empire's grasp. Sources have revealed that the Grand Master made contact with the Black Talon in order to uphold the peace treaty between the two factions. However, the Empire was quick to shut down the Jedi's peaceful efforts. And who would be responsible for such oppressive behavior by ordering the attack on the Brentaal Star? The Butcher of Coruscant: Grand Moff Kilran

Upon returning to Republic space, the crew of the Brentaal Star refused to comment on the result of the battle, but we did learn that among the casualties were Jedi Yadira Ban and Commander Ghulil. What the valuable contents consisted of and its fate are unknown, though Grand Master Shan commented on the battle. "The peace between the Republic and Empire is fragile enough already." She further stated, "Incidents like this are happening across the galaxy, and only because we let them."

What this means for the peace between the Republic and Empire remains a mystery, but CBNS will continue to provide you with the latest breaking news updates.

Approximately seven hours ago, Republic vessels crossed into Imperial space attacking a squadron of Dreadnaughts. Grand Moff Rycus Kilran, Commander of the 5th Fleet, intercepted the Republic attackers. However, one Republic vessel did escape the skirmish: a Thranta-class warship named the Brentaal Star. According to initial unconfirmed reports, the Brentaal Star was carrying key cargo from Imperial space.

Thankfully, the Gage-class transport Black Talon was within range to intercept the Brintaal Star. Although we are unable to reach the captain of the Talon, Revinal Orzik, to confirm, we received word that passengers aboard the Talon assisted in retrieving the stolen cargo.

Much of the information regarding the specifics of the cargo, as well as the condition of the Black Talon crew, are classified. However, reporters from INBN witnessed Communications Officer Ensign Hetter and Security Coordinator Ensign Brukarra leaving the Talon’s transport shuttle on Dromund Kaas. Unfortunately, neither were available for comment. However, Kilran commented, "This is only one of the many operations we are now conducting around the galaxy. Citizens of the Empire should be proud. It’s a new beginning to the war. With one step on Dromund Kaas, you will see what we are fighting for.

We are unsure what Kilran’s cryptic message means, but rest assured INBN will be there with the latest on this breaking story.

Which is better: the prequels or sequels of Star Wars? This is by far one of the greatest Star Wars debate topics of all time. Do episodes I, II, and III stay true to the name of Star Wars, or do the sequel episodes, consisting of episodes IV, V and VI, trump the prequels and bring the story to life?

Though majority of people would back the original trilogy, those opinions would largely be from those who grew up in the 70s and 80s, seeing the extraordinary work of George Lucas for the first time on the big screen. But how do the younger generations feel about the Star Wars films? For some people, the new-age special effects and expanded horizons of an already large fantasy world may just be what they desire.

There are many factors which may influence a person's decision as to which trilogy they prefer. Originality of the story is one, as is the level of special effects, the diversity of the characters, and the abilities of the actors to convince the audience. When you apply these factors to your decision, which trilogy do they favour?

Flicking back through the Force Reflections we've published in the past, it was shocking to see that the big question had never been asked. Now it is time to bring the great debate to SWTOR-RP. Today's question is: do you prefer the prequels or original trilogy? Be sure to explain your answers in the comments section.

BioWare recently implemented Game Update 1.1 onto all of the live servers for The Old Republic, introducing a bunch of new features, as well as fixing some old, annoying bugs. Jedi Knights can finally get groovy with Kira Carsen with the recent fix of her companion affection story. However, the update was not the "be all and end all." Game bugs still exist, and there is still plenty of work to be done to appease the needs of the millions of players, including us roleplayers.

For those of you that missed it, BioWare spoke about some of the upcoming features to TOR. The elusive Legacy System is going to be revealed some day soon, and we can only hope that it assists roleplay rather than hinders it. Despite this controversial game feature, recent forum activity is focused on completely unrelated topics. PvP on Ilum and ability delay have been the most talked about topics earning the attention of the developers. Check out some of the latest developer forum posts in your SWTOR-RP Dev Tracker Report below.

Whilst we're on the topic of the official forums, please head on over and check out the official SWTOR-RP thread in the roleplay section. Feel free to show your support for the site by posting in that thread.
