The Old Republic Roleplay|Site Info

Social media and networking sites have taken the world by storm. Millions upon millions of people spill their emotions and hatred of almost anything and everything onto the news feeds of Facebook. Tweeting has become a new #sensation, but it doesn't end with the two big mommas of social networking sites.

Videos of humanity's more tragic and lesser glorious moments have gone viral on video streaming sites such as YouTube and Vimeo. Want to see someone backflip, only to land face first in a pile of horse dung? You'll probably find it. Google Plus has entered the arena, though compared to the other champions of the Colosseum, it is but a mere shadow of Facebook's and Twitter's success.

SWTOR-RP has succumbed to the beck and call of the hype of social media—we have our own Social Media team, consisting of Azure and Sriin, to ensure that the rest of you social media slaves are up to date with our latest updates.

We have our own Facebook and Twitter pages which are updated daily with all the latest happenings on our front page, as well as news directly from the office of The Old Republic. Additionally, some of the site's staff have kick-started their own social media campaigns, so be sure to view our list of sites and pages below, and start liking and following the team behind your roleplaying hub for TOR.

The Official Old Republic Twitter account announced just now that guild deployment mails with server assignments will be going out on Monday. If you're a guild leader, keep an eye on your mail, as I'm sure everyone is going to be asking you constantly! If you're not a guild leader, don't worry. Your guild's server will be flagged for you in-game. It's newsmageddon this Friday, so be sure to check out the other two updates as well!

If you want to take part in the superserver projects be sure to PM your guild's server to Sebaya Keto for North America and Kyte for the European Union. Time is of the essence for that so if you're a guild leader, do what you can to pass that information on as soon as you can. The clock is ticking, so while we wait, tell us what you think. Why are they waiting so long?

BioWare has recently announced on The Old Republic's main site that TOR will be available to pre-order customers two days earlier then previously announced. You can now pre-load the client if you have an old version, or if you want to reinstall to ensure you won't run into any nasty bugs come opening day.

Although the note at the bottom of the article about having seven days early access might seem like an error, Stephen Reid has confirmed this to be correct via Twitter, effectively stating that players who pre-ordered the game will now be able to play as much as a full week in advance of launch on December 20th. I don't know about you but this was a big relief, I've been having withdrawal symptoms!

In the newest installment of the Choose Your Side series of videos, the Republic Trooper and Sith Inquisitor are sized up by members of the BioWare team. Writer Charles Boyd and Combat Designer Cameron Winston favor the big guns, while the more subtle Inquisitor is championed by Writing Director Daniel Erickson and Combat Designer Austin Peckenpaugh. Watch the video below and see for yourself as they discuss their favorite elements of each class and the hows and whys of who would win in a fight between Commander Cody and Darth Maul.

There's certainly some juicy tidbits in there for roleplayers as well, as the trooper is described as a "shoot first, ask questions later" sort of character who carries the weight of responsibility on his shoulders. Meanwhile the inquisitor is "always thinking, always calculating," and can dish out enough lightning to power the entirety of Coruscant. Whether you plan on playing a one-man Michael Bay film or plotting elaborate schemes in the hopes of hearing your favorite Mon Calamari catchphrase, the clips shown should help make the wait just a little less bearable.

While the trooper in this installment appears to be a commando, the general theme of guns and ammo should suit anyone looking to take up a role in the Republic Military. Fans of the sorcerer may find themselves disappointed however, as this inquisitor seems to have taken the route of stealth and the double-bladed lightsaber. Still, there's plenty of lightning to go around and the developers spend a good deal of time discussing the importance (or unimportance!) of range between the two classes.

Take a look at the video and let us know where you're placing your bets in the comments below! BioWare is also encouraging players to shout out their favorites over Twitter with either the #CYSInquisitor or #CYSTrooper hashtags.

We've previously announced that two of the senior staff here at SWTOR-RP, Tziena and Vaanthe, will be heading to the second Fan Site Summit being held at the BioWare base in Austin, Texas. We were privileged enough to have received an invite from Community Coordinator David Bass, and we'll be attending alongside some of the big guns of fans sites for The Old Republic. Ask A Jedi, DarthHater, and Mos Eisley Radio are amongst the thirteen fan sites who will be attending. However, the announcement of our invitation and who will be attending is old news. The new news is... the Summit has begun! Tziena and Vaanthe are now in Austin with the developers from BioWare. Envious much?

Tziena and Vaanthe will be keeping us up to date with the happenings from the Summit. Be sure to follow our Twitter page for all the news. If you don't have a Twitter account, perhaps now is the time for it. We hope to see a number of tweeted pictures from Tziena's and Vaanthe's experience with BioWare, and be sure to stay tuned to SWTOR-RP for further updates when they become available.
Zahira I'm in same boat as ODDjobXL so I hope for an article here also. Have fun.
OddjobXL I'm not a Twitter guy but I'm very happy for Tziena and Vaanthe. Hope we get updates here on the main page as well. Go ...

It is no secret that SWTOR-RP hosts a newly-launched wiki for roleplayers in The Old Republic. Some time ago, we announced the launch of the site where we saw an influx of our members who began creating their character wiki pages. We've spread the news of our wiki on Twitter, as well as our thread on the official TOR forums. Additionally, it seems that the launch of our wiki has also reached the ears and eyes of the team at Ask A Jedi. All The Galaxy's A Stage -- a weekly column by Sa Chi -- focuses on the some of the roleplaying resources available to players of The Old Republic in a once-a-month RP Tracker. This month, our very own wiki page has been brought under the spotlight and close review.

Not only does Sa Chi discuss the features of the wiki, but he also provides his opinion on what the wiki has to offer compared to other wiki sites. Fortunately for us, he has nothing but praise for the work conducted by our wiki team at SWTOR-RP. According to Sa Chi, they've outdone themselves. Here is a mini snippet of what he has to say.

"From what I understand, the wiki design team opted to spend several months configuring, coding, and testing the best possible wiki they could.  In my opinion, this effort was undoubtedly worth it.  As a member of the RP community I would like to extend a big thank you to the many spies that died to bring us…Oh wait, wrong context."

Be sure to head on over to Ask A Jedi to view the latest edition of All The Galaxy's A Stage. Feel free to discuss your thoughts on our wiki here in the comments section below. Whether you love or hate what our wiki team have done with their concoction, let us know what you think.

Hello again everyone. In this week's edition of The Darker Side of Life we'll be discussing force sensitive and normal characters, and how they match up. In the movies, Jedi and Sith are always the heroes and villains, but does it have to be that way? Can a normal character be just as heroic or villainous in The Old Republic? We'll be diving into this issue using your responses from the Darker Side of Life thread, as well as discussing how the characters can interact with one another.

As the title image suggests, who would win in a fight; Darth Vader or Boba Fett? A few years ago everyone but the Mandalorian fanboys would have said Vader. The Old Republic however puts all of the classes on an equal footing. But can the force really be offset by kickass gear? We'll attempt to answer this as we dig through your responses.

The question really is how they match up in practice out in the roleplay world. Can a Sith Lord boss around a Bounty Hunter? How about a Jedi with Troopers? These sorts of questions have been all over the forum recently, and we'll be diving into them as well. The Old Republic's class stories are supposed to make all the classes heroic, but is this a good thing, or could it inflate egos too much, only to have them burst when dealing with players instead of NPCs? Read on and let us know what you think!

Welcome back everyone to this week's The Darker Side of Life. In this edition, we will be discussing our characters and how we create and become attached to them. The two main issues here are called Mary Sue, and the IC/OOC divide. Mary Sue refers to the complexity of a character, their balance, and how much of ourselves we put into them. The IC/OOC divide is a term for how we keep ourselves as players separate from our characters, sometimes not always successfully.

When I think of Mary Sues, I like to think of Duke Nukem. He represents an unstoppable killing machine bubbling over with testosterone that is out to kick ass, get the ladies, and nothing else. When it comes down to it though, it's not much fun to be in Duke Nukem's universe if you aren't the king himself. Mary Sues tend to put other roleplayers in a similar position, since they are often all powerful or unstoppable. The question is, where do you draw the line? How much is too much?

The IC/OOC divide is an even more convoluted topic. We often put a bit of ourselves into our characters, but again, how much is too much? How do you know when you've become so attached to a character you cannot bear to see them harmed? Every roleplayer has become too attached at some point, and the question here is more how to deal with it when it happens, otherwise it can be a problem for everyone around you.
Gratulor Wesley is a perfect example of why we shouldn't put our whole selves into our characters.
Jeanne Nice article... the images made me laugh.
El-Cid I sort of disagree with your premise. To me, a Mary Sue has always been either A. Someone whose backstory is intimately ...

Here at SWTOR-RP, the staff are driven to deliver the best possible experience to the roleplayers of The Old Republic. We strive to provide the latest news about the game, assist newcomers to both roleplay in itself and the game, as well as launching a number of resources, such as the upcoming wiki, to help with the immersion of the characters created by our members. The staff here sacrifice their time to do just that. Like the wiki, we've got a number of other new features coming your way. Member Spotlights will be starting up soon, where we give our members the opportunity to let the rest of the roleplaying community know who they are, and what their intentions are for The Old Republic. It also allows us to give back to the community to say thank you, because without you, we'd cease to exist.

There is a lot of work going on behind the scenes to make sure we keep the content pumping. But just who are these people behind the site? With the launch of another new feature to SWTOR-RP, we go behind the scenes to get to know the staff and their deepest darkest secrets! Well, not really, but we'll try to crack them to reveal something naughty. This is an opportunity for our community members to get to know the staff of the site. Each staff member, whether they're a Reporter, Guide, Community Manager, or Wiki Editor, they will have to submit to questioning. So here we are with the first Staff Spotlight, presenting one of SWTOR-RP's Reporters and Guide Coordinator, Sebaya Keto

It is no secret that here at SWTOR-RP, we have a wealth of talent. Everyday our member numbers grow with roleplayers flocking to the site to get their characters and guilds for The Old Republic under the spotlight. The guild listing continually grows, as do the number of journal and story entries posted on our forums. Slowly, we're getting to learn the traits and personalities of the characters we'll be interacting with in BioWare's upcoming Star Wars MMO. Members from both sides of the war -- the Galactic Republic and Sith Empire -- are beginning to make acquaintances, and story arcs between players and their characters will inevitably flourish. The question stands though -- who are the people behind the characters?

Followers of SWTOR-RP will have familiarised themselves with our Guild Spotlights. Each month, we take a guild from our long list and toss them under the spotlight, conducting an interview with its leader and publishing the results on our front page for all the world to see. It is now time to extend the feature to our members. Introducing the SWTOR-RP Member Spotlights! Chosen at random, one of our members registered with the site will be given the opportunity to share their personal stories with the community, as well as explaining his or her motivations and ideas for the game. It is an opportunity for the staff of the site to appreciate our community and what the members of our site have to offer.

For the first couple of Member Spotlights, we'll be running a contest to decide on who will be chosen to kick start the new feature. If you're not aware of it, we have a Twitter and Facebook page for our site. To participate in the contest, head on over to our social pages and follow us for the chance to be chosen in our first Member Spotlights. A follower from one of our social sites will be chosen for the feature, so get yourselves on that list. Be sure to keep an eye out for our forum announcement with additional information. Hopefully, we'll see one of you under the spotlight soon!
