I'm sure we've all wondered what our characters would look like if they were real. Well, now we can see some part of The Old Republic in live action, thanks to the gentlemen at VFX . This French production company produced a live action version of the cinematic trailer, Hope.Directed and edited by Michael Shaack, it faithfully follows most of the original Hope trailer. Malgus is bald and creepy looking, Jace Malcolm looks like an unshaven badass soldier, and Satele is a guy. Wait, what? Read on! Yes, the main difference between the original Hope and the live action rendition is that the character of Satele is played by a male actor. It doesn't detract much from the film. If they can pull off the lightsaber blocking move from the original trailer, then whatever they do is all right with me! The ships are beautifully rendered as is Alderaan's cityscape. The lightsabers look real and the combat professional. This group might be able to give ILM a run for its money in the near future. Thanks to the Jace Hall Show for showing The Old Republic community what a few individuals can do when inspired!
You can view both versions of the Hope cinematic trailer below. Enjoy!

Majority of people deal with people of a superior social and economic standing to them on a daily basis, whether it be through work, or at home dealing with parents and older siblings. In a work environment where an autocratic style of leadership is in existence, any direction given by a member of higher rank—as long as its in good faith of the job iteself—must be followed. Questioning or disobeying these directions can lead to disciplinary and managerial action. On the contrary, a workplace that adopts a diplomatic style of leadership, such as an office workplace with no clear rank or hierarchy structure, is a lot less strict in regards to directions given by those that hold managerial positions.
In today's Force Reflection, tell us what your character thinks of their leaders. Do they despise their bosses? Do they fear them? Perhaps your character couldn't be happier under the current leadership. Let us know in the comments section.

Moments ago, a team of Republic heroes were dispatched to reclaim the Republic Warship Allusis. Reports indicate that a group of rogue Mandalorians under the clan name Varad stole the Allusis whilst it was docked at the Fondor shipyards for refits.
Clan Varad used the vessel to raid Outer Rim systems, defenceless against the destructive capabilities of the Allusis. Evidence is scattered of shattered and broken worlds at the hands of the rogue Mandalorian group.
Satele Shan, Grand Master of the Jedi Order, is said to have led an assault fleet to allow the Republic strike team to board the vessel. However, it is now known that the Sith Empire have sent a team of their own to take the vessel for themselves.
The fate of the Allusis is currently unknown. Republic officials have refused to comment on the status of the vessel and the Republic strike team.
Upon returning to Coruscant, Grand Master Shan briefly addressed the public. "Allusis was a great Jedi who sacrificed himself at the Battle of Bothawui. The Republic honours his memory, but the Mandalorians are disgracing it."
Grand Master Shan refused to comment further.

Appearances are everything, right? How do you tell if the person you're looking at is a drunk cantina patron, or a Sith Assassin ready to pounce on you? In this week's The Darker Side of Life, we'll be taking a look at force sensitives and how to spot them properly in roleplay. It's not always as simple as just looking for the lightsaber. That creepy man in black robes standing in the corner might be a Sith Lord, or just the old janitor. Force sensitives can sense each other, right? After all, Darth Vader could sense Luke in the shuttle heading for Endor. Kreia, though, managed to use a ritual to hide her own force sensitivity from others to keep herself alive. Without a character bio, how in Hoth are we supposed to tell?
The Old Republic has a new an unique system for us as well. The Sith/Darkside Corruption mechanic actually changes the character's appearance as they accumulate Dark Side points. Skin becomes pale and veiny, eyes become orange, then red. But is that even enough to assume someone might be a Sith, and how does that help with Jedi? Miraluka can see the force, so shouldn't they be able to tell light from dark? How do they do it? Can they just examine someone and look at the little force slider?
The real question is when does any of this cross a line into metagaming? It's that we'll seek to answer as we examine each of these methods in turn to elaborate just how it is appropriate to tell if another player is force sensitive. Join me as we dive into this issue, highlight your responses, and work to come up with a way to navigate the minefield of interacting with new people!

Earlier today, A Republic warship named Brentaal Star escaped a skirmish in Imperial Space. It is unknown what ignited the space battle, though reports indicate that the Thranta-class starship contained valuable information. Upon leaving Imperial Space, the Brentaal Star was intercepted by another Imperial Vessel, a Gage-class destroyer called the Black Talon. Yet again, another space battle erupted, and we can only conclude that it was in the Empire's interest to either capture or destroy the Republic starship and its valuable contents.
Satele Shan, Grand Master of the Jedi Order, commanded a fleet of 16 Republic destroyers to intercept the Brentaal Star to ensure the safety of its crew and cargo from the Empire's grasp. Sources have revealed that the Grand Master made contact with the Black Talon in order to uphold the peace treaty between the two factions. However, the Empire was quick to shut down the Jedi's peaceful efforts. And who would be responsible for such oppressive behavior by ordering the attack on the Brentaal Star? The Butcher of Coruscant: Grand Moff Kilran.
Upon returning to Republic space, the crew of the Brentaal Star refused to comment on the result of the battle, but we did learn that among the casualties were Jedi Yadira Ban and Commander Ghulil. What the valuable contents consisted of and its fate are unknown, though Grand Master Shan commented on the battle. "The peace between the Republic and Empire is fragile enough already." She further stated, "Incidents like this are happening across the galaxy, and only because we let them."
What this means for the peace between the Republic and Empire remains a mystery, but CBNS will continue to provide you with the latest breaking news updates.

Racism is an ugly part of the real world, but in creating a virtual world, is it necessary to create a realistic environment? Star Wars lore has shown us over the years that characters can be extremely racist, just like real people. The Galactic Empire in the original trilogy was portrayed as being extremely humanocentric, and often discriminating or outright enslaving other species across the galaxy. Likewise, the Sith Empire of The Old Republic seems to use aliens as slaves as well. Pureblood Sith on the other hand are looked up to and revered. The Republic, being the good guys, is much more cosmopolitan but no doubt non-humans also face harsher lives in the poorer areas such as the Coruscant undercity.
In this week's edition of The Darker Side of Life, we'll discuss your feelings on the issue as well as seeing some examples of racism in roleplay that you've seen. Racism is a touchy subject. We'll talk about times that it has gone too far in past games, and what can be done to keep that from happening again in future roleplay. As usual, I took your responses from the Darker Side of Life thread and will use them to try and weave a narrative together. Is it possible to roleplay out racism without being offensive? Let's dive in and see what everyone had to say on this touchy topic!

When you think about a BioWare game, the first thing that comes to mind is usually its story. The Old Republic is no different. It has been touting as adding a new fourth pillar to the MMO genre – story. But is the addition of a story for our characters really a good thing for roleplayers? In this week's The Darker Side of Life, we dig into the issue, and using your responses try to find a measure of understanding in the chaos.
Most of you reading this have played TOR's beta already, so you've had a chance to see the class stories in action. Don't worry, nothing will be spoiled for you. Snape kills Revan. The stories themselves though have gotten a lot of attention. They're fun, and for the most part on par with something you would expect the folks at BioWare to have written. While that may be great for the game's success, how many Bounty Hunters are going to win the Great Hunt? How many Jedi Knights can be Orgus Din's apprentice at once?
In one of the first issues of The Darker Side of Life we discussed the use of companions in roleplay and ran into some very similar problems. In the end the consensus seemed to be you could always use them as extras, different characters, or just not at all. In the same way we've seen Sith Inquisitors offer up different backstories as to why they were enslaved, but will it be enough to differentiate them from the pack? Can you really build a strong character off the class story? Can you add a planet to The Old Republic? Read on and we'll find out

For an Empire driven by a philosophy based on humanocentrism – placing humans above all other races – one of its most famous members in The Old Republic sure did have a soft spot for a female of a race usually seen as less than equal compared to the Empire's finest. Darth Malgus, Sith Lord and Commander of the Imperial Military, has been depicted in all three of BioWare's cinematic trailers for their upcoming Star Wars-themed MMO. Despite his success on the battlefield against the Republic's and Jedi Order's finest combatants, there is more to this character than meets the eye. Who was the romantic interest that caused a weakness in Darth Malgus that was almost exploited by a Jedi after the Sacking of Coruscant? What happened during his upbringing that gave way to his malevolent nature? And what about that face mask? All will be revealed in SWTOR-RP's focus on one of the more well known members of the Sith Empire; Darth Malgus.

In an article miniseries based on Daniel Wallace's instruction book for students of the Jedi Order – The Jedi Path – we've taken you through some of the lessons taught to Initiates and Padawans, as well as discussing some of the roles available to Jedi talented enough to make it to the rank of Jedi Knight. The Jedi Path: Teachings of the Jedi Order has acted as a guide for roleplayers who wish to learn more about the lore covering the different ranks within the Jedi Order, exclusively on SWTOR-RP.
Note that most of the knowledge extracted from the book has been of the teachings after the Ruusan Reformation – an event which occurred much later in the Star Wars timeline than the events which take place in The Old Republic. However, any major differences in the structure of the Order have been pointed out in Parts I through IV so far of the miniseries, with the major difference being the manner in which the Jedi Trials are carried out. The Jedi Code, teachings of Initiates and Padawans, and the different roles of the Jedi Knights discussed in Part IV can be said to be very much the same in the era of The Old Republic, as there is no evidence to the contrary.

It's a well known and controversial fact that the Jedi take force sensitive children at a very young age. From the time they are an Initiate and the Jedi-to-be are forbidden from contacting their family due to the strict code of non-attachment. Love and contact of a Jedi's former family are major no-no's, no matter what timeline you're in, even if it's a bromance. That hasn't stopped some of the most powerful and influential Jedi from getting involved, though. Anakin Skywalker went to contact his remaining family on Tatooine and had a sordid and secret love affair riddled with bad acting and a cringe inducing marriage scene. Even the butt-kicking Satele Shan had to surrender her son Theron to a caretaker because of the Jedi's strict code against attachment. Some characters in ToR may follow the traditional ways of a Jedi and take the safe, boring path but many will skirt on the edge of danger. This reporter's question goes to the latter group: Will your Jedi be interested in family (past or present) and will they be open or fall to the idea that is a romantic entanglement? Thoughts in the comments! Go!
