There have been many prestigious and dignified Generals who have served in the Republic Military over the years throughout Star Wars history. The Jedi Exile served as a General in the Republic Military – working under the infamous Revan – during the Mandalorian Crusade that took place during the era of Knights of the Old Republic. In the same era, General Vaklu served under Queen Talia on war-ridden Onderon, whilst Garm Bel Iblis served the New Republic as a General following the events of the Galactic Civil War. However, the most heroic of them all was – drum roll please – a character who fell into the role through clumsiness turned luck. His ears were as floppy as his form in combat, and his speech as incomprehensible as the reason for his existence. Yes, we're talking about Jar Jar Binks; the ultimate General!
All jokes aside, no General throughout history has been described as being more "ruthless and uncompromising" than General Garza. Her relentless nature earned her four of the most distinguished awards offered to members of the Republic Military, consisting of the Medal of Valor, Silver Crescent, Mark of Dedication, and Chancellor's Service Medal. Furthermore, to help combat the Sith's all-out assault on the Republic following the events depicted in the Return cinematic trailer, General Garza was behind the creation of the Republic Special Forces group, consisting of the army's most elite soldiers, including Harron Tavus who has been featured on the site. Eventually, the Treaty of Coruscant was signed by the Republic and the Sith Empire, however allegedly, that did not deter Garza from pressing the attack. She was said to have ordered a number of covert strikes on the Empire's garrisons and housings throughout known space.
During her time in the military, Garza is said to have married and divorced three times. It appears as if her fierce and forceful personality wasn't just a feat that she reserved for the military. Despite what some people may describe as her "shortcomings," her military tactics and strategies were unmatched during her time. Watch out for Garza when The Old Republic launches, which we now know will release even earlier for early access candidates. Viva La Republic!

When you think of the Galactic Republic's Senate, what is the first thing that comes to mind? Is it rampant corruption and oppressive bureaucracy? Well congratulations, you're a realist. Even in these dark days, the Republic Senate is plagued by self-interest and greed. Sound familiar? Possible BioWare political commentary aside, the corruption in the senate is something players will see from the moment they step foot on Coruscant.
As soon as you get off your ship, you run into a representative of a Senator and are sent right away to the Senate Tower to begin the Coruscant quest line. While I won't give away any of the things you might see while working for a senator heading into the undercity, it isn't pretty. Remember, this is the dirty, crime-ridden part of the megalopolis that gets equated with the more violent crime.
Today though as we look forward to an early pre-lauch on the 13th, we ask you what your character thinks of the corruption. Is it a blight or weakness for the Republic? Something that needs to be fixed to save it, or even a way to potentially earn a profit? Let us know what you think!

The Galactic Republic is comprised of numerous systems, each represented in the Galactic Senate. Because of cultural, economical, or even religious differences however, the senators don't always agree eye-to-eye, often leaving important policies bound up in red tape. Democracy may have its merits, but one doesn't need to look far to see that corruption thrives even in the heart of the Galactic City, and it isn't hard to think that maybe the politicians just aren't doing what they were elected to do.
Meanwhile the Empire has displayed the efficiency of authority through its Moffs and Governors, bringing swift and decisive action and establishing the rule of law on conquered worlds. It may seem oppressive, and that whole bit about the Sith hierarchy may muddy things up for those not trained in the Force, but there's no harm in allowing your blue-sided character to think "what if?"
Does your character believe in democracy? Does he or she turn a blind eye to the shortcomings of the Republic, or do they actively pursue change? Do they occassionally look at the Empire and wonder if they're fighting for the wrong side? Tell us in today's Force Reflection!

The Galactic Republic, ever since its inception, has always been at odds against those that disagree with its policies or aim, or with those who just seek to destroy it. Pirates, Mandalorians, Separatists and the Sith, the Republic has fared against threats of almost every conceivable size, shape and intent. And more often than not, due to the might and collective will of its military, the Republic emerged on top. Like real world governments, the Republic relies on diplomacy and politics to settle most problems. But there are times when diplomacy fails with people or powers that diplomacy will never work against. To protect its citizens from such threats, the Republic relies on its army and navy. The soldiers and pilots that belonged to the Republic's armed forces were the first line of defense, to most, the only true line of defense. But too often are the Republic and the Jedi Order lumped together. While indeed that the Jedi are almost instantly thought of as "Guardians of the Republic" and contrary to their rather prominent and common roles as generals, they aren't the only ones charged with the Republic's defense. There are ordinary men and women, trained as soldiers, giving their all
and risking life and limb, regardless of threat, to protect their
Republic. To combat those that would destroy them, soldiers utilized
numerous weaponry, all in the name of defense. But an army, as it is within the Star Wars universe, needs more than just soldiers to maintain itself. What about engineers or scouts? What about those that would give orders and serve as officers – symbols of leadership? As the previous weeks of Force Reflections focused upon the Jedi or the Sith, this week the Republic has the spotlight. Would your character even care about the Republic to join one of its armed forces? If so, why? And what role would your character fill? Do you, as players, think that it'll be impossible to represent other military roles when it comes to game mechanics and class?

Our heroes are many. We grow up idolising different individuals over time, hoping to one day become a shadow of the hero we so cherish and envy. Whether these people are your parents, siblings, actors and actresses, or business tycoons, we place them on a pedestal in our minds and gape at them in awe. What is it though that makes these people so great? Is their accomplishments that wins our desire? Is it their personalities and mannerisms that we strive to one day make our own? Or is it their display of undying strength and determination whilst pointing a laser chaingun at the enemy and mowing them down to claim victory? Wait... what?
In The Old Republic, Jace Malcom – depicted in the Return and Hope cinematic trailers – could be said to have been made famous for his heroic display against the odds in battles with the Sith Empire. Whether he's detonating a grenade still in his hand in an attempt to wound an enemy, or he's manning his large laser chaingun and raining havoc on the Sith, Jace's will to fight for what's right knows no bounds. Perhaps you prefer military achievements amongst the commissioned ranks of the Galactic Republic, with General Garza's controversial relentless in military tactics being a prime example. If the military is completely out of the question for you, Supreme Chancellor Janarus' means of political leadership might be up your alley.
With Republic week kicking off at SWTOR-RP, let us know who your hero of the Republic is. If you're a fan of the Trooper class, Jace Malcom may just be that hero. Otherwise, if you prefer espionage and top secret missions, Theron Shan – son of the Grand Master of the Jedi Order – might just tickle your fancy. Whoever you idolise from the Galactic Republic, let us know who they are and why they're your hero in the comments section. Viva La Republic!
