Nar Shaddaa has been credited as ground zero for trillions of diseases, both medicinally and socially. Greed, sickness, and poverty litter the Smuggler's Moon like pock marks, the potential glitz and glam of the casinos and cantinas lost in the shuffle of death, intrigue of the Hutts and violent thugs. Yet, for the planet's location and excessive economic importance, the Empire and the Galactic Republic have a major claim in the world's affairs. To this duty the Senate assigned Ambassador Averdon. The human man had been known to broker tough deals with neutral parties in the past, his career spanning before the Treaty was even signed, often leading to complete evacuations of worlds before Imperials even showed up, leaving minor strategic assets void of resources or people to exploit.

Few beasts are as beautiful and practical as the beloved Varactyl. Originating from Utapau, the Varactyl were originally hunted for game for hundreds of years for their colorful plumage and their warm, durable fur. As the planet's society evolved the Utapauns began to domesticate the fur-and-feather covered creatures and turn them into their mode of transportation before the planet's technological golden age.
Even after the boon of space flight and hyperspace travel, the Varactyl have been used as non-mechanized mounts across Utapau. So adaptable and able at what they do, several companies from all corners of space had begun to buy their own litter of Varactyl pups. Eventually, they came to be a common sight across the galaxy, most of them landing in the hands of those in need of traversing hazardous areas with the expertise and finesse that only the Utapaun Varactyl could provide. Where skiffs and speeders would break down under sweltering heat or begin to teeter precariously on unsure cliff edges, the Varactyl would perch like they were born to do it—and many xenobiologists agree that they were, indeed, born to do it!
One of the fastest species in the galaxy, Varactyl have been known to outrun the most vicious predators, several history documents claiming that a racing swoop was beaten to one of the beasts in a head-to-head race. Unfortunately, the spread of Varactyl have led to unknown side-effects after their owners became one with the Force or their pens came to ruination.
While wild Varactyl may share physical properties with their domesticated cousins, they may very well be dangerous! The loving, peaceful creatures have been known to kill many a traveller advancing towards the commonly friendly beasts in search for petting due to the proximity to a Varactyl nest. Never make that mistake! Wild Varactyl are very, very territorial!
Other than isolated instances of travellers advancing on nests, the Varactyl is, indeed, how it is perceived: the excellent companion. Eternally grateful, loving, and ever happy to see its owner, many Varactyl have been known to throw themselves into the way of harm for their riders, the intelligence in the reptavian species' eyes being nothing else but intelligence and love. Currently, they are the most sought-after non-mechanized beast of burden and are a favorite amongst ranchers and explorers, but RHS definitely agrees that as long as you're mounted on a Varactyl, it is they who have your back.

Governor Saresh,  Alderaan,  Author: Norri,  Balmorra,  BioWare,  Coruscant,  Dromund Kaas,  EA,  Electronic Arts,  Empire,  IC Report,  LucasArts,  Rakghoul,  Republic,  RHS Report,  role-play,  Roleplay,  RP,  Senate,  Star Wars,  Star Wars The Old Republic,  SWTOR,  SWTOR-RP,  Taris,  The Old Republic,  TOR,  Treaty of Coruscant
When the Treaty of Coruscant was signed, it left a sour taste in the mouths of every citizen of the Galactic Republic. Coruscant burned, Alderaan's government was nearing collapse and the unemployment rates across the galaxy reached record highs that hadn't been seen in centuries. Refugees starved, several worlds suddenly faced a complete halt in supplies, others drove into civil war. Balmorra was abandoned, and countless faithful army units who still—in spite of being ignored—felt loyal to their government. We were beaten and bloodied, our representatives grabbing for straws as their estates burned and their bank accounts emptied. The Sith Empire had finally won.
But we refused to back down to such a decadent and malevolent enemy. Soldiers and citizens of the Galactic Republic outright refused to submit to the intergalactic bullies on Dromund Kaas. Through outrage and inability to take any more corruption, both Ord Mantell and Coruscant are now being thoroughly cleaned of corrupt politicians. Citizens are beginning to vote responsibly, submit complaints, and lend themselves to reconstruction efforts across the ravaged worlds of the Republic.
One of those worlds is Taris. Untouched by the war, a Senatorial decree ordered that Taris would be one of the first lost Republic worlds to begin recolonization since the Jedi Civil War. The initial efforts were a disaster—ten years of Governor after Governor falling into ruin after the trials became too much for them. Once more it seemed as if the Sith had defeated the best we had to offer—until planetary Governor Saresh.

In a monumental and normally unseen rate of change, the formerly rundown "heart" of the galaxy is suddenly becoming the respectable planet it was before the Great Galactic War. Plagued by corruption, crime, hunger, and the rampant fires that still burn from the Sacking of Coruscant, it almost seemed like an impossible task to turn the world that was sliding into a pit of Rancor filth back into the prosperous center of trade it once was. While planets like Ord Mantell and Alderaan still suffer from internal problems, the changes taking place on Coruscant will pave the way to a galaxy strong in democracy and purity of government. These changes will also put fear back into the Empire, their border skirmishes and strong-arming will not last long against the combined focus of the Galactic Republic. Several cases of corrupt Senators have come to light, many admitting to working with criminal elements for voting purposes or being exposed by good-willed citizens who love democracy! Never before have so many government officials resigned than those in the past and coming months due to the fear of being forced out of office or arrested due to their own twisted hunger for power.
Only so much as a year ago, Coruscant seemed unbearably close to its breaking point – the point where billions of refugees and other civilian lives would be cut down in an ever-growing tension that tore the lower levels apart at the seams. Criminal gangs controlled several districts, as well as violent paramilitary groups, Cthon, hunger, and more led to an inflow of complaints, and deaths, which the Senate couldn't ignore any longer.

Once noble and great beasts, the Orpali dragons of Hutta are now the chemical-infested monsters nicknamed "Chemilizards" by both the Evocii natives and immigrant workers to the adopted Hutt planet. In this day and age, the Chemilizards are one of the few, rare species that prefer the fetid, polluted swamps to the few places on Hutta where natural animals remain untainted. In the days before their forced mutation, Orpali dragons were a rare delicacy that were grown and farmed in their youth for consumption by Hutts partaking in their centennial feasts, traditionally served over a bed of glazed Chuba eyes. Due to poor handling by the cooks and servants of Bakuush the Hutt, several hatchlings were lost in the ventilation system of his palace, never to be seen or heard from again. Having eventually escaped through the sewer system of Bakuush's palace, the naturally resilient Orpali dragons evolved through the sludge and grime of Hutta, leaving many a Hutt irritated at the new, mutated lack of taste and rougher, more scaly skin. Now that they are unappetizing, the Hutt enforces for both Nem'ro and Fa'athra have taken the beast's hatchlings and raised them to act as a bigger, more unruly version of your standard guard dog, though their acidic spit and unruly nature leave something to be desired. As individual creatures in the galaxy at large, however, they are no more frightening than an Akk dog. From their solitary hunting methods to their dwelling in bog-like burrows in the marshes of Hutta, they are only a true danger to the Evocii and any bounty hunter or civilian stupid enough to venture off the roads into the knee-deep vomit hued industrial wasteland. Spending several minutes in any Ord Mantell town away from the major cities and capital and it becomes apparent that there is no law, only organized corruption and exploitative opportunists who seek to rob both honest civilians and the brave defenders of the Republic of their hard-earned credits and livelihood. What struck me the hardest is even whilst under direct Republic control almost every island off the mainland or capital is as dangerous and corrupt as the entirety of Nar Shaddaa. One sideways glance at a passing Mandalorian and you would never be heard from again. With Ord Mantell's depleted infrastructure it was no surprise to find that the source of the planet's toxic touch: the black market. Most worlds will only have minor problems with criminals and miscreants, the local defense forces keeping civilians safe and happy. Ord Mantell has no such system save for their easily bribed military. The majority of the political figures are often "sponsored" by black market privateers to pass seemingly harmless laws or allow diplomatic influence extend to covering up the activities of their criminal cohorts. The long-abandoned Mantellian spaceports and estates have all but paved the planet's path to such a fate. With so many barren settlements that dot the landscape it is a haven for the black market. With the Republic's armed forces engaged in the brutal civil war, these gangs of rampaging malcontents, Mandalorians, and greed driven criminal scum have all but kept the civilian population in controlled fear. Due to the Galactic Republic's oversight, refugees, supply ships, and valuable information to support the cause is lost each day to the politicians who placate and cover up the activities of the ill-intending black market minority that use the planet as a way-station for both slaves and illegal goods. Ships that no doubt carry overweight loads of spice and military grade adrenals escape the grasp of the local authorities. While it may seem that the war is almost closing to a conclusion with how hard the Republic Special Forces are pushing against the separatist movement, it will be a very long time before Ord Mantell is considered anything but a war zone outside of its major cities. With the delicate state of galactic economics it may be decades before the planet returns from the scorched and pock-marked landscape of terror and crime to the beautiful world of islands and serenity it once was.
