The Old Republic Roleplay|Site Info

Hello again everyone. It's time for another Guild Spotlight! This month I sat down with Lord Adraas' Hydian Expedition Outfit (HEO) and their leader Ringo Orlan. The HEO is a semi-independent Republic organization that does the Republic's dirty work while allowing it to officially have deniability. It almost sounds like Mission: Impossible's IMF to me.

Republic RP is suffering a disadvantage of numbers recently. Every server has seen shrinking populations as the newness of The Old Republic has worn off, and other big MMO titles are launching. The Republic has always been the victim of a faction imbalance, so we've been trying to highlight them recently to help turn that around. If you are interested in a Guild Spotlight of your own, you can contact myself of Ganden to officially request one. For now though, read on to see what Ringo has to say about the Hydian Expedition Outfit!

Darth_Haos It's great to see such proud guilds on Lord Adraas. Now if only we can get some on Ebon Hawk.....

We break net now as we take you to Voss, the newly discovered mysterious world on the edges of Imperial space. For months, the planet has remain steadfastly neutral and only allowed limited contact with the Empire.

Tonight was supposed to be a display of Imperial wealth and power. A gala event hosted by the Ambassador Kruven Medlem and his staff was to give the locals a taste of life under our glorious Emperor.

Instead it has turned into a night of tragedy! Agents of the Republic Strategic Information Service snuck up to the Ambassador under the guise of merchants and stabbed him. Lord Medlem was rushed to the med center in the Imperial Quarter of Voss-Ka, but no official statement has yet been given on his status.

The agents who carried out this brutish attack were gunned down, and the streets are clear of revelers for the night, but only time will tell where this leads. The Minister of War is expected to give a speech soon on this brazen Republic attack.

How many of you were aware of April Fools'? Were you subject to an April Fools' joke? Fans of The Old Republic who follow the game's news on the official website would have seen an update of a new game feature, dubbed the "Ship Droid Experience!" As much as it embarrasses me to say, I thought this was completely legit. I had my Reporters jump onto the news of this alleged new game feature, and the very next day we published our own coverage. I logged on the next day and saw some of the comments. "April Fools!" read a comment by one our members. Suffice to say, I slowly sunk lower into my chair and dropped my head in shame. However, I doubt I was walking alone on Naivety Street that day. Who else was fooled? Come one now, put your hands up! Help a brother out!

Despite this minor setback, April was an exciting month for players of The Old Republic and the members at SWTOR-RP. Why? Legacy! Game Update 1.2 went live, and we finally got a glimpse of what the Legacy System was all about. How many of you were relieved to discover that connecting your characters wasn't limited to family? Not only can you create your own dynasty, but you can also link your characters as allies and foes. Pure brilliance, I say.

The month of April also housed a number of other exciting updates here at SWTOR-RP. We continued with our Flashpoint and story progression in-character entries, bringing the in-game events to you in an exciting breaking news format. Some of the servers held some unique roleplaying events which we covered on our front page, and we saw the birth of a new column by our esteemed Reporter Norri. Read up on all of this plus more in our April edition of Month In Review

The power of fine dining has brought the end to many horrors. Soldiers have thrown aside their arms to have a savory meal and a thirst quenching drink. Sith and Jedi suddenly find themselves pulling credit chits out of their robes instead of their lightsabers. Many a dinner party has been had in the past where treaties were signed, trade franchises created, or new governments who wish fair treatment to their constituents suddenly sprouted out of tyranny.

Sonfax's Port Nesh Diner threatens to become one of these places as it sits upon the precipice of immortality. Originally a standard diner inside of a spaceport on the blue collar world of Corellia, it seems that the proprietor of the establishment has moved up in the galaxy since closing that first location only a few weeks ago.

The new location on the relatively unknown, isolationist world of Voss comes with a few hang-ups. Diplomatic or trade passes to the planet are rare, but easily attainable if one does not mind the 180 basic standard day waiting period for travel. While it is unsure how the self-made Twi'lek man managed to get his hands on the lease to a Voss establishment, the only thing that matters is the food and how darn good it is!
Rinn'sashi (( " the first Twi'lek business owner on Voss" :< ))
Salin (( It was crazy how many people were there, and how long it went out into the wee hours x3 ))

Sonfax's Port Nesh Diner has a prestigious history of bringing joy to the masses; originally conceived only a few months ago when the Twi'lek owner and head chef purchased the lease on a commercial shop inside of one of Corellia's busiest spaceports. At first, the success was noticeable and grand, the progress matched only by the endless line of hot food and cold drinks shooting out of Sonfax's hands as he struggled to keep up with the orders of so many hungry, happy patrons.

The self-made man of the hour, Sonfax, doesn't plan to end the legacy of his culinary expertise. While there was no closing statement, or any final moment where he looked back into the popular haunt and somberly shut off the lights there was...an air. An air of happiness, and of regularity. One where we knew the environment and we, the patrons, ultimately inhabited the world that this kind, happy Twi'lek man made for us all.
Skygrave ((Yay! New location!))
Note The old place was great, but the new one should be great too!
Bystran / Davrek ((I was about to head over but then I realized I'm Empire hehe))

The hours went by slowly as the evening wore on, as the first annual "Mister and Miss Nar Shaddaa" pageant unfolded in the grimy and rather stark surroundings of the location known simply as the Blood Factory. Fourteen hopeful contestants gathered in the space as seven judges decided who was the fairest of them all. Any contest on Nar Shaddaa isn't complete without accusations of foul play, bribery, or other suspicious possibilities. Some questions arose for those that attended the pageant, and speculation apparently ran rife when the results were finally announced after a rather lengthy deliberation process as the host, Vaanthe, and a Jawa or two worked over the results of the judges' accumulated votes.

The winners were announced with Franky Fourfingers, a known Huttball player, being crowned as Mister Nar Shaddaa, and Ali’anjya Elyse Fayn as Miss Nar Shaddaa. The runners up were Vertigus Abd'Zoth, apparently known for his prolific supply of offspring, and Briah Silvertongue.   The two newly crowned beauty 'king and queen' will reign for a year, with the two others stepping in if something should happen to the winners.

A hunter hosting a 'beauty' contest? Is this as crazy an idea as you have ever heard or what? No, readers, you heard it right when the first annual "Mister and Miss Nar Shaddaa " Beauty Pageant was announced over the planet. Hosted by Vaanthe, known for running security at the Yocola Tonka when it was open, as well as refereeing at the Blood Factory, this contest allegedly was begun as a bet with a Gamorrean, Nautolan, Human, Twi'lek, and others of some unsavory reputation over a game of dice. Speculation over what was the true standard for beauty on the grimy yet brightly colored world of Nar Shaddaa sparked this idea, and so it is really happening.

Will the contestants be as gaudy as the city's lights and glamour, or is it all really more than skin deep in the 'Vertical City'? That's the question to ask as fourteen hopeful men and women go up for their chance to be voted Mister and Miss Nar Shaddaa for the duration of a year. The deal includes the title to be held by the winner of either title as well as possibilities and deals to be made for future endorsements to some local businesses, public appearance opportunities, and other deals. It is rumored that a Hutt or two might even want to meet some of these contestants personally. Blessing or curse for that one? We value our lives so we won't speculate publicly!

Game Update 1.2 keeps getting closer, and with it, the introduction of The Old Republic's Legacy System. While other MMOs have global chat systems and names, no other major online game has gone as far as TOR in connecting our characters. The idea was one BioWare has had since the game's inception, since many of the great Star Wars characters are linked by blood. Darth Vader revealing himself to be Luke's father remains one of the best twists in movie history, but how does that work for roleplay in TOR? It's a little hard to wrap your head around at first. Despite the available races being near-human or humanoid, there's still a lot of variation between a Twi'lek and a Chiss. How exactly would they breed, if it's even possible? The good news is the developers thought of that too, and you can add your characters instead as allies or adversaries to the central family tree.

While you can take the last name off those characters and have them show a legacy title instead, it does mean that you're losing out on last names for your alts, and it's a lot better than living without last names at all as we originally feared. In addition, I don't think it's some sort of ploy by BioWare, but if you really want to have more then one last name, you can always make two accounts. You can also intentionally misspell or use accented letters if you want to share last names with another player, though supposedly we'll be able to share legacies officially someday. While it's a great gameplay feature, the system is a bit shaky for RPers, especially since it will be mandatory to unlock RP emote packs. So lets jump in and discuss how legacy stands up to roleplaying expectations in this week's The Darker Side of Life.

What makes our Empire the greatest power in the Galaxy is the patriots within it. The men and women that strive to only better their great Empire and please their Emperor. Some go above and beyond the call of their Empire, sacrificing their own time, credits and equipment. Recently, a group of the Empire's finest sort gathered on Dromund Kaas to dispense weaponry and equipment to any in need. These great citizens are known by their code-names to us, but their organization is only called The Faceless Ones. Clad in masks and armor, they strike imposing and intimidating figures, but their goal is the most noble that could be.

Their leader, a strong and tall warrior known only as Romulus, stood and helped his band of patriots pass out aid and gear to any who wish it. Everything from blaster rifles, to armor and spaceship parts. With this movement, man stepped forward and donated equipment—some, if not most, trading gear for the items given by The Faceless.

Community sites are driven to success by one major contributing factor. You have three guesses. No, it is not hiring a group of Jawas to run the site. And no, it is not by employing an army of Gungan soldiers as forum moderators—though that could be fun, right? Did you say "member support and growth?" Ding ding ding! We have a winner folks!

SWTOR-RP has been blessed with a supportive community and ever-growing member numbers. Each day, players from The Old Republic seek a virtual home away from home in this hub for roleplayers, connecting with others to form new relationships, create new stories, and to make their roleplaying and gaming experience as pleasant and adventurous as possible.

Without the support from our members, we'd flutter into a pointless non-existence. And to express our gratitude, members are randomly chosen to participate in the member-alternative to the Guild and Staff Spotlight feature: the SWTOR-RP Member Spotlight! To qualify, just be sure to remain active on the site, and watch your private message box.

This time around, Tiali takes to the stage with stories of her roleplaying endeavours as an information broker in The Old Republic. What does it take to buy and sell information on other player characters? Let's find out!
