Times have been tough for Vette. The quirky, bubbly and, at times, random Twi'lek has faced some harsh obstacles in her life. Born as a slave on the Twi'lek homeworld of Ryloth, Vette was separated from her family at a very early age, sold from minor crimelord to crimelord. This bouncing around stopped when a pirate going by the name of Nok Drayen destroyed her owner's holdings and Vette, along with the other slaves, were given a choice: to have their freedom or to join up with Nok and become a pirate. Vette signed on with Nok over personal freedom and became a pirate, traveling from world to world and learning many of her skills in the process, especially how to get in and out of places undetected -- places she otherwise wouldn't be allowed into.

Her time as a pirate didn't last, however, as Nok Drayen, years later, suddenly and inexplicably released everyone from his service. Vette was left to her own devices on the smuggler's moon of Nar Shaddaa, where she and other young Twi'leks used their ingenuity to rob and deceive those who would take advantage of them. Her mischief eventually led her to Korriban, where she first appears in her role as a companion character in Star Wars: The Old Republic.

Vette is one of the confirmed companion characters for those who choose the Sith Warrior class. The Sith Warrior is given access to Vette as a sort of collateral for a task that is assigned to them. Vette is also said to be a potential romance option for Sith Warriors, too. Vette's fate, as well as her abilities and appearance, is up to the players. Will this spunky Twi'lek rebel against the Sith Warrior? Or will she fall, becoming a thrall to power and the insidious dark side?
Nordi / Voc Vette is awesome and mind numbing at times. If you can hammer your way through with her however its worth the trouble ...

Being honoured as the best at any particular thing is an achievement that you cannot share with anyone else. Best is a noun, not a plural. Therefore, the title is yours and yours alone. However, putting that to practice to dub someone the best at anything in Star Wars would be awfully difficult as opinions vary. And they vary immensely. Just who is the best of all the Jedi to have ever lived in the Star Wars universe? Could it be Yoda? Or would his failures in foreseeing the upcoming storm of the dark side disqualify him from the running? Perhaps Luke Skywalker and the many adventures that followed the original trilogy grants him the glory and title as the best Jedi of all time? It could be an endless debate. But let's stop for just a minute. This is independent's week, right? So why are we talking about Jedi? Blame the author.

Independent's week focuses on all the characters, locations, groups and organisations that would consider themselves loyal to none other but themselves. The Republic and the Empire – or whatever name they would be referred to as over the many eras in Star Wars – can go and throw themselves in the Sarlacc Pit for all the independents could care. As we come to a wrap in independent's week, we'd like to know who you think is the best and most influential independent character from any era in the Star Wars story. Who is it that motivates you and draws you into the faction-less group? Is Boba Fett the ultimate independent character? Perhaps one of the Mandalores? What about Salacious Crumb? Let's not forget the little guy. Post your thoughts into the comments section.
Devlonir Chewbacca, the only person he was loyal to is Han Solo (who choose the Rebels.. but only eventually). Furthermore, he is ...

Being an independent doesn't necessarily have to mean your character is a stoic Bounty Hunter that works for the highest bidder or a scruffy looking Smuggler just trying to get by on the edge of the galaxy. The Old Republic's universe is also populated by trillions of other sentient beings that are just trying to go about their lives. Because their stories are not as epic and exciting though, they tend to only be seen when they become collateral damage. Owen Lars and Aunt Beru are the best example of this. They were simple moisture farmers until being burnt to a crisp by Imperial Stormtroopers, driving Luke to leave for Alderaan with Obi-Wan.

Not all civilians end up dying tragically to advance the story though; sometimes players can give them rich and meaningful stories of their own. For today's Force Reflection, we ask you if you've ever played a character that's just trying to live their life, without years of combat or force training – someone normal. Did the character spend their entire lives scraping by on Tatooine, or eventually become driven in their own storyline to clumsily take up arms against injustice? Many of the best heroes have humble beginnings. Let us know what you think!

Let's face it, numerous independent (or neutral, whichever you prefer) characters in Star Wars have been of the smuggler, criminal or mercenary persuasion. There were two major characters of this mold in the original trilogy: the scoundrel Han Solo and the somewhat more reputable Lando Calrissian. No doubt about it, The Old Republic will still enjoy that touch of roguish personae. In fact, there are several major characters like this already established: the smuggler-turned-unlikely-hero Hylo Visz, the bounty hunter Shae Vizla, and Mandalore the Lesser himself. But most importantly, not all of our characters will be Jedi defending peace, justice and the Republic, or Imperial Agents seeking to undermine the Republic through subterfuge; many have already shown that their characters will fall into the Independents category.

Mercenary work can be a rather dirty and, oftentimes, violent thing. Many Independent characters have shown that they are rather unscrupulous or indifferent about the jobs offered to them. These jobs can run from being rather straightforward and simple, such as being a bodyguard for a merchant or politician, to being fairly complicated and, in some cases, of questionable moral activity -- like arms dealing, drug smuggling and assassination for personal gain.  When such a task is offered, the question most asked is usually: "How much will I be paid?"

This is not to say that all Independent or neutral characters are amoral guns for hire. Han Solo himself  turned over a new leaf once he became caught up in the Rebellion. What about your character? Will he or she be indifferent about the jobs that might be offered? Or perhaps your character has a moral code, to which you adhere strictly to? Would your character be up for any type of job, regardless of the impact it might have or who is hiring, should the pay be good?
Gratulor Bedraal will not take any jobs that breach the Code of Honour and the Six Actions, as well as his own moral compass. He ...
OddjobXL Not sure about Hazim just yet. I wasn't planning on playing a Twi'lek smuggler, I had my Jedi all planned out, until I ...
Alor As a mercenary company with a wide variety of departments, you can bet Verde is up for just about any job you might want ...

Independence is a survivalist's trait that some people will never learn. However, others live by it. They roam off on their own, serving their own wishes and needs with no care for anybody else. That may seem a little extreme, however any Star Wars and The Old Republic fan will know that it is not too much of a stretch from the truth. Many Bounty Hunters and Smugglers within the Star Wars universe look after only themselves. They don't serve anyone but themselves, despite sometimes taking payment from particular organisations and factions. Some of the most well known characters from Star Wars are those that claim independence, and that feature lives on in The Old Republic. The question remains, however, as to which class is truest to the idea of independence.

BioWare's virtual concoction of a Star Wars universe contains eight iconic classes, four of which use the almighty force, whilst the other four rely on their wits and their skill with blasters. Of the eight playable classes, which do you think portrays the idea of independence the most? That is today's Force Reflection to kick start independent's week at SWTOR-RP. It is highly doubtful that any of you would suggest a Jedi Knight or Consular could take up the mantle, even though there may be arguments about grey Jedi being thrown in. The true battle of independence will most likely be between the Smuggler and Bounty Hunter. So who is it for you? Post your thoughts in the comments section.
Cal-var I gave it some thought and at first, I'd have said it's a pretty even match. Now, though, I'd have to say Smugglers. Bot ...
OddjobXL I'd say it's a straight tossup. Both bounty hunters and smugglers are freelancers usually. Grey Jedi are exceptions to ...
