Not all characters belong in a guild. Sometimes you play the loner or the distant role. Sometimes you are a member of a team, a family man, a brother. But what side of the fence is your character on? Not just from an OOC standpoint if there is a guild tag hanging under your name, but from an RP stand point. Do you RP a person who works with a group? Or are they on their own, fighting for themselves? Sometimes you can get by being in a guild but RPing your character as an independent. But which are you? Are you behind the idea of being a lone wolf? No guild and RPing with everyone and anyone? Or are you part of a group, fighting the enemies of your comrades and allies while benefitting them while you can? The Star Wars universe is full of both, from the epitome of a an independent, Han Solo, to the leader of an entire fleet like Darth Vader. There are hundreds of possibilities of where you can stay on the spectrum. As always, let us know in the comments!

Even a cursory perusal of the guild recruitment threads in any of the SWTOR-RP server forums reveals that there are a few guild concepts that crop up again and again: the (Republic or Imperial) military or intelligence unit; the crime syndicate; the shadowy Sith cabal; the noble Jedi circle.
Obviously, that these concepts are so popular indicates there's a market for them. They're interesting in their own right, and it's always possible to put an original spin on a well-travelled concept. On the other hand, someone looking for a more distinctive guild might struggle to find a good match among all the conceptually-similar ones.
If you're part of a guild that embraces one of these concepts, how does your guild try to stand out from the crowd -- or do you just focus on building a strong guild community, figuring that differentiation will take care of itself? If you're part of a guild which doesn't embrace one of these concepts, how did your guild arrive at that concept, and are you at all concerned you're catering to a niche audience? And if you're still looking for a guild, how might a guild's concept weigh into your eventual choice? Let us know in the comments!

The Official Old Republic Twitter account announced just now that guild deployment mails with server assignments will be going out on Monday. If you're a guild leader, keep an eye on your mail, as I'm sure everyone is going to be asking you constantly! If you're not a guild leader, don't worry. Your guild's server will be flagged for you in-game. It's newsmageddon this Friday, so be sure to check out the other two updates as well!
If you want to take part in the superserver projects be sure to PM your guild's server to Sebaya Keto for North America and Kyte for the European Union. Time is of the essence for that so if you're a guild leader, do what you can to pass that information on as soon as you can. The clock is ticking, so while we wait, tell us what you think. Why are they waiting so long?

Today, our community team at BioWare announced that it has started Phase 3 of the pre-launch guild program: Deployment. This process places your guild on a server before Star Wars: The Old Republic is even launched, so that you will be able to immediately log in and play with your friends. Besides the benefit of server balancing, this will preemptively cut off confusion of which server you should choose and ensures that your guild will be on a server with other guilds of a similar playstyle.
How do you know if your guild is ready to be deployed? BioWare had this to say:
To help clear up any confusion as to whether or not your guild is ready for deployment, we have now given each guild page a small status indicator. This indicator will show you the number of people in your guild who have pre-ordered the game, and will inform you whether or not your guild meets the criteria for deployment into the game.
Although the developers have not announced the number nor names of the launch servers, this information should be coming soon™. For more information on how to form an official guild or to find out if your guild qualifies for deployment jump over to the Guild HQ on the official SWTOR website.

Welcome to another edition of SWTOR-RP's Weekly Dev Tracker Report. Compared to previous weeks, it has been reasonably quiet in the developer post department of late. There have been only a few posts of interest made by the team behind The Old Republic, with last week's focus mainly on companions and item modification. It seems that speculation has run high on the item modification game system. Though this feature is still in testing and details about it's specifics have been kept under wraps, members on the official forums have been discussing the game feature extensively, resulting in a number of posts by the developers to clarify a number of points. If you're after some exclusive information about item modification, you won't find it. We all know how BioWare work when it comes to unannounced features. You can view all of their responses below.

Launch for BioWare's upcoming fully-voiced MMO, The Old Republic, is imminent. It won't be long until we'll be counting down the hours, minutes and seconds for blastoff. The game will be packed-full of features for launch, including a guild system, crew skills, space combat, companions, flashpoints, end-game content, as well as hours and hours of story-rich questing. As large as the game will be, there are still plenty of ideas being tossed around for the game, some of which may be introduced by BioWare post-launch.
If you haven't already seen it, check out SWTOR-RP's Comic-Con 2011 Wrap Up. In the article you'll find a bunch of ideas that have been put on BioWare's "wall of crazy." It is a wall in the BioWare office consisting of superb ideas that they wish to see implemented into the game at some stage post-launch. Some of these ideas include interior customisation for player ships, an application for smart phones to allow for mobile handing of your companion's crew skills, as well as the idea of capital ships for guilds.
In today's Force Reflection, tell us what you'd like to see in The Old Republic post-launch that we know we won't be seeing when the game is first released. We understand the game hasn't been released, and that there are still a few announcements yet to be made about in-game mechanics. However, we've got a pretty fair idea of what we'll be seeing at this stage. Head on down to the comments section and let us know what you think should be on the wall of crazy, if it isn't already on there.

Should I join an RP guild? The short answer is yes. If that's all you wanted, stop reading now, go to the guild board here at SWTOR-RP, and find one that suits you. If you wan't to know why, or want to argue with me in the comments, and please by all means do indulge yourself, then read on and I will do my best to enlighten you.
Now, I'm not just saying guilds are important because I've lead one on and off for years and I'm trying to justify all the wasted time spent settling petty arguments amongst members. For the average Joe Skywalker, finding good RP hooks isn't easy. Sure, you can walk into a cantina like the Velvet Pearl or Yocola Tonka and find some decent random RP. However, for most people that's just not enough.

One of the major decisions a player in an MMO game will have to make is whether or not to join a guild. For a roleplayer, the decision is much more crucial and needs to be made carefully. Each roleplaying guild has it's own style of RP, it's own story, as well as general rules as to how RP is conducted within it's ranks. In The Old Republic, guilds differ in size, allegiance, and class. Some guilds focus on military RP, where others practice the life of the Jedi Order. The question stands; is it worthwhile joining an RP guild? Is it going to benefit you? Are you going to meld into the group comfortably?
In an edition of All The Galaxy's A Stage, Sa Chi discusses the very issue of whether it's necessary to join an RP guild. Furthermore, he helps players -- especially the newcomers to the play-style -- by raising a number of points to assist in joining a guild. Inspiration to join the guild, as well as it's leadership and how they function are two major matters that should be considered prior to submitting an application. If you're still up in arms as to whether or not to join a guild for The Old Republic, this article is definitely for you. Head on over to Ask A Jedi and check out Sa Chi's latest edition of All The Galaxy's A Stage.

Being part of a guild in The Old Republic definitely has it's advantages. Not only do you get to join a group of roleplayers who hope to make their own, as well as each others' roleplay as great as possible, but you also have the opportunity to make lifelong friends from across the globe. BioWare have added to those advantages by announcing the Guild Testing Program, which allows entire guilds, if selected, to enter beta testing in The Old Republic.
The announcement was made via the official forums by BioWare's Senior Community Coordinator, David Bass. The program will allow BioWare to collate data on how large groups handle the different game mechanics and systems. There are rules, however, and your guild must be selected by the team at BioWare. Your guild must have at least ten registered members in the Guild Headquarters, and creating a recruitment thread that adheres to the Recruitment Guidelines will up your chances. If your guild is selected, the guild leader will be notified and information will be passed down with instructions on how to get your fellow guildies into testing.
If you haven't already done so, head on over to the Guild Headquarters and get your guild registered with at least ten members. Unfortunately, Europeans will have to wait until testing in that region commences. As for the rest of the world, you're left in a serious disadvantage once again. Check out the official announcement by David Bass here.

Guilds are a major part of an MMOing experience. Groups of virtual characters form up under one banner -- and sometimes under one purpose -- to storm the worlds created by gaming companies. In The Old Republic's case, BioWare have pieced together numerous worlds from the Star Wars universe, allowing fans of the franchise to immerse themselves into the lives of Jedi, Sith, and other blaster-wielding folk. BioWare have also promoted guilds for The Old Republic, allowing groups to advertise their creations on the official page for the game.
Guilds can go on raids together, quest together, and even boogie together. For roleplayers, guilds have a deeper purpose other than simply enjoying the mechanics of a game. Roleplaying guilds have missions, history, and above all, a purpose. Here at SWTOR-RP, we've seen countless guilds advertise available positions within their ranks, with openings on both sides of the war. However, these positions might not be what particular individuals are looking for. Some may even ignore the advertisements altogether and remain guildless in The Old Republic. In today's Force Reflection, we'd like your input as to what your stance is on guilding for an active roleplayer. Do you believe that joining a guild is essential? Or are you a believer that roleplayers can have just as much fun running solo? Let us know in the comments section.
