Launch for The Old Republic is just about one month away. Anticipation is building, and BioWare are adding the finishing touches to the game to get it ready for the crazed mass of players who will be rushing in from the 15th of December for early access. Leading up to release, the staff here at SWTOR-RP have been consistent in asking the community some of the hard-hitting questions about their gameplay styles, their characters, aspects of Star Warslore, as well as numerous other topics relating to The Old Republicvia our Force Reflections. It may be the case that we've helped some members construct particular aspects of their characters that they'd never thought about previously. It may also be that we've ruffled some feathers with the many controversial roleplaying topics that we've covered over the many months.
Leading up to launch, the staff here will be continuing on from a past Force Reflection feature in the form of a themed week. Previously, the Force Reflections consisted a week-long focus on scenarios that players may find their characters in. We asked the community to discuss how their characters would react in certain situations, and the responses we received showed just how dynamic the minds of roleplayers can really be. Over the next four weeks, leading up to the 20th of December, a date much anticipated by many, we're going to hold a different theme each week for our members to respond to. The themes will consist of a Jedi week, followed by a focus on the Sith, the Galactic Republic, with the Sith Empire to bring matters to a conclusion.
To make the next four weeks of Force Reflections enjoyable by all, we'll be opening up to our members to allow for any ideas you may have for each of those weeks. If there is a particular topic within each theme that you'd like covered, whether it be about lore, a particular character or planet, or any other topic, send a private message to Ganden with your ideas. We'd like the themed weeks to be as interactive as possible, so be sure to participate in both providing answers to our questions, as well as submitting any ideas you may have. Stay tuned at SWTOR-RP, as we'll be kicking it off on Monday the 21st of November. Time to get your reflective thinking hats on!
The regular podcast spotlighting roleplay for Star War: The Old Republic is a little late this time, but in the end it is worth it. The roleplay quartet discuss everything from RP-PVP servers to mesmerizing geekbating, whatever that means. But that's not all; this very site is the spotlight of the last half of the conversation. Thanks to DarthHater and members of the official The Old Republic forums, we have received some more goodies from PAX East 2011. With Daniel Erickson as the host, two demonstrations have made their way from PAX to the world wide web. A space combat demonstration has been shown by BioWare, depicting a Twi'lek character inside her ship, an XS Freighter, assigned to the Smuggler class. She uses the galaxy map in the cockpit to select a space battle mission. After a quick loading screen, where Daniel Erickson points out the greatness of the handy tips displayed during these screens, the XS Freighter begins its "on-rails" flight through space, swatting away Interceptors and firing at the turrets of capital ships. As the mission progresses, flames and smoke begin to appear around the ship, showing the damage the the XS Freighter has absorbed during the dogfight.
Additionally, a demonstration of Tatooine is shown on the big screen. We are shown snippets of different locations on the planet. The purpose of this demonstration is to show players the size of the areas on Tatooine. Simply put, they're huge. Moisture farms, Tusken Raider camps, and even Anchorhead makes a debut in this demonstration.
View the space combat demonstration here, and the Tatooine demo here. Furthermore, we have set up a forum thread with additional details from PAX. Stay tuned for more details as they come through!
After much anticipation, PAX East 2011 has kicked off with a bang. BioWare have set up their booths for The Old Republic and have hit the spot with their first epic reveal. Speculation of the first announcement ran at dangerously high levels, however they can all be considered quashed as BioWare have released a new trailer using all in-game footage. Named "Fate of the Galaxy," the trailer conveys the message that war between the Republic and Sith Empire is imminent, despite the peace treaty that followed the Sacking of Coruscant.
The unbiased in-game footage depicts scenes from both sides of the story with epic battles and characters of all classes. We get to see scenes of Tatooine, Hoth, the lands of Tython, and airpeeders racing through the skylanes of Coruscant. We even witness the brutality of the Sith as an innocent Jawa is batted away in a strike worthy of a home run. The trailer also contains what appears to be player vs player battles, as members of the Republic and the Empire go head to head with mighty explosions and the clashing of lightsabers. The video has been posted below for your convenience. Enjoy!

One of the bundled gifts of joy for fans of The Old Republic in the latest Friday update consists of an addition to the inhabitants page. As one of the many playable species, BioWare have revealed further information on the Rattataki. Pictured above, the near-human species originate from their homeworld of Rattatak. They are of a violent nature, with Aurra Sing, a Rattataki Bounty Hunter, representing their destructive and evil capabilities. It is perhaps for this reason that BioWare thought it appropriate to assign the species to the Bounty Hunter class.
Physically, the Rattataki are pale-skinned and bald. They are brutal and fierce warriors with their homeworld's main spectator sport consisting of gladiator matches, so it would be doubtful to see one of their kind walking the streets of Nar Shaddaa with a Mynock mud pie in hand and their bellies hanging over their belts. Their brutality extends to sacrificing their own kind where the weak were swept aside to make room for the strong. Prior to the events of The Old Republic, a Sith Lord by the name of Darth Vich adopted a hundred Rattataki tribes for his personal army. Their prowess in battle was magnificent, however when Darth Vich attempted to use his army to gain rank in the Sith Empire, he failed miserably and the Rattataki troops were slaughtered. Rumours spread of a few of Vich's force sensitive Rattataki acolytes escaping the butchery, with an unknown number of those entering in to the Sith Academy for full training.
The Rattataki now have their own inhabitants page on the official site for The Old Republic. There you will find a number of images and their story, compliments of BioWare and their latest Friday update.
It has been over six months since we received news that the Deceived Novel was going to be delayed from it's original release date in December 2010. The wait is almost over as the novel that follows the story of Darth Malgus is set to be released in the United States on the 22nd of March. Darth Malgus led the battle on the ground during the Sacking of Coruscant, bringing destruction to the Jedi Temple.
Born on Dromund Kaas with a birth name of Veradun, Darth Malgus was sent to the Sith Academy on Dromund Kaas at an early age. As years passed, Malgus met his Twi'lek lover, Eleena Daru, rescuing her from slavery on Geonosis. The pair have conducted missions together, including the Sacking of Coruscant where they successfully penetrated the defences of the Jedi Temple, killing Master Ven Zallow in an epic battle depicted in the Deceived cinematic trailer. Darth Malgus also took part in the Battle of Alderaan, where he engaged in another fierce battle with a Republic Trooper and a female Jedi Knight, recently confirmed by Georg Zoeller as Satele Shan. As a result of the battle, he sustained serious injuries to his jaw which gave him no option but to wear a mask that covered his neck, mouth and nose.
In the latest Friday Feature, BioWare announced details of the novel's release, as well as providing followers of The Old Republic another epic cinematic trailer. Links have been provided for viewers to read the first few chapters of the novel in an exclusive sneak peak, as well as lists of online retailers where the novel can be pre-ordered. You can view the full announcement here.
They are some of the most dangerous, deadly, and destructive individuals in the galaxy. If you have got a price on your head large enough to attract their attention, may the force be with you as you will have a hard time keeping them off your trails. Whether you are wanted dead or alive, they will stop at nothing to complete the job and get paid. Who are we referring to? They are the Bounty Hunters of The Old Republic.
Lacking major updates from the game, the Bounty Hunter has finally received a little love with a new trailer created for the class. In the short video, we see some exciting and explosive abilities available to those who choose to play the class. Wrist launchers of flame and ice, the use of jetpacks, and a number of dramatic cutscenes are just too electrifying to miss. Adding icing on the cake, BioWare have revealed a companion character and the Bounty Hunter starship. Mako is an orphaned slicer from Nar Shaddaa and will play the role as one of the Bounty Hunter's companion characters. You can view her full profile on the official inhabitants page. The newly announced starship for the Bounty Hunter is the KDY D-5 Mantis which houses three retractable weapon foils, each with its own power supply. It is said that good news comes in threes, and BioWare have delivered on this with three new updates for the Bounty Hunter.
Head over to the official The Old Republic website and check out the new trailer, starship, and companion. For those of who that cannot wait, check out the trailer below, added for your convenience.
