Ever thought of what life would be like without a companion? They take many forms, so majority of people would have one, whether it be a pet animal, a best friend, or family member. We confide in them, laugh with them, and have them run errands for us in times of need, much like that of companions in The Old Republic. Whether you take to the streets of Coruscant with your astromech droid, or storm the deserts of Tatooine with your little Jawa friend, they're there for you to do your bidding.
GameSpot recently sat down with Game Director, James Ohlen, to have a little chat about the companions we'll be interacting with in The Old Republic. We know only so little about them at the moment, and only a limited number of them have been announced. We know that their appearance is customisable, they partake in crew skills, their AI can be configured, they're capable of romance, and they'll be fighting alongside you through thick and thin. What we didn't know was the extent of how their AI can be customised. James Ohlen mentions that as we progress through the game and gain levels, so do our companions, earning new abilities along the way. We can then decide on which abilities our companions can use, and which they should ignore. Supposedly, Bowdaar gains the ability to toss his enemies about with his bare hands. Pretty cool, huh?
We keep saying that the game is not far from release, but is that really the case? GameSpot does a fine job of sucking out as much information from James Ohlen as possible. Want to know where the game is at now? Check out the quote below:
"We're getting really close. You can play the game from start to finish. You can play the end game content, including flashpoints and operations. All the core game systems are in. Right now, we're making some balance changes to the space game, to the itemization progression, and to the leveling curve. We're improving enemy AI across the game. We're polishing late-game quests. But mostly we're focused on bugs."
The main spectacle for this article is the Developer Dispatch video. Enjoy it below, courtesy of GameSpot and BioWare.

Gaming conventions are always an exciting time for those that closely follow highly anticipated titles. It is rare that fans are disappointed during these events, as gaming companies such as BioWare always deliver the goods. With Comic-Con 2011 at a conclusion, BioWare have once again kept anticipation levels for The Old Republic at a high, with a new trailer, a long panel event, as well as numerous updates about a game that we've been wanting to get our hands on since the year 2008. With all these updates going viral during the event, it can sometimes be a little labor-intensive to keep up to date. To make it easier for you, we're doing another convention wrap up, just like we did with E3. Here you'll find all the best bits in one place, saving you from scouring the corners of the world wide web. We've collated data from the official website for The Old Republic, DarthHater, GameSpot, and Ask A Jedi. Thanks go out to those sources for all their hard work.

Everything looks better with a fine polish. Our cars, Playstation 3 consoles, boots, and even bald heads give off an incandescent shine when we apply the right amount of polish. It is no different in the case of computer games, where the right amount of finishing touch-ups can really complete a game and make the experience for the player just that bit more illustrious.
BioWare have released another Developer Blog, touching on the "post-writing polish process." Ian Ryan, a writer from BioWare, explains how polishing a particular zone on one of their planets can really add some extra zest to the story. Here at SWTOR-RP, we place a large emphasis on story. Why? Because we represent the roleplaying community of The Old Republic, and without story, there would be no roleplay. Therefore, knowing that BioWare pay attention to polishing their game brings us much comfort. We've seen examples of their work in Mass Effect and Dragon Age, where their storytelling abilities have prevailed, and other gaming companies have met their inevitable doom.

Another year of anticipation and excitement -- perhaps disappointment for some -- has passed, with the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2011 now behind us. BioWare exhibited The Old Republic during the three day event, announcing some never-before-seen features, such as raids, vehicles, and their final cinematic trailer by Blur Studios. With events such as these, sometimes it can be a little hard to keep track of all the updates being thrown at us from different sources. So, here at SWTOR-RP, we're doing an E3 wrap up, compiling the latest announcements, features and trailers, as well as developer clarification on some of the questions that arose during the event, and we're bringing all that information together into one, massive update.

The Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) is only a few days from launch, and previews have already started pouring in for The Old Republic. Daniel Erickson, Gabe Amantangelo, and Damion Schubert -- developers from BioWare -- have participated in an interview with GameSpot about some of the details BioWare will be revealing this year at E3. Raiding, Tatooine, and mounts are some of the focuses in the interview. We learn that Blur will be unveiling the grand finale to their cinematic trailer trilogy for The Old Republic, and GameSpot and Daniel Erickson have both stated that this year's E3 will be BioWare's biggest yet, with the most amount of information revealed than ever before at the show.
Raiding is making a debut at this year's show, however the end-game feature has been called "operations." They've been described as multi-group, epic events that'll become available to players once they reach level 50. There will be different difficulties with different rewards, appealing to all gamers from the casual kind, to the most hardcore keyboard bashers out there. Daniel Erickson continues on to explain that mounts will only be in the form of vehicles at launch, however there are hopes that animal mounts make it to the game post-launch.
Crafting and the economy are briefly discussed, as well as the hint that spaceship customisation -- both interior and exterior -- will make it to the game, though BioWare are not discussing the details as yet. There are two videos in GameSpot's preview. We have another epic trailer, showing off some of the upcoming content reveals for E3, as well as an interview with Daniel Erickson, where he states that there are still a number of game mechanics and content yet to be revealed. Check them out after the break.

Just as some fans thought that BioWare would not give us anything new this close to E3, Gamespot reveals a trailer that blows our minds. Obviously, this is a tease for this week's Friday update, and it does not disappoint.
The Sith Inquisitor is one of two Star Wars: The Old Republic classes that has the possibility of filling every group role: DPS, healer, and -- oh, yes -- tank. The full power of the Force is available for her to command. As we see in the video, Force powers range from a life drain to a telekinetic bubble. Do not under estimate the power she wields.

We love them, but we would never want to be chased by them. Bounty Hunters offer endless entertainment for Star Wars fans with some great characters of that class appearing throughout the Star Wars universe. Mention of Bounty Hunters can go no further without making note of Boba Fett. Featuring in both the prequels and sequels, Boba is one of the most famous and feared Bounty Hunters to date. Other members of the profession include Calo Nord from the Knights of the Old Republic series, Bossk, Jango Fett, and Aurra Sing.
GameSpot, an online gaming source, make no mistake when stating that BioWare's upcoming game, The Old Republic, is one of the most highly anticipated games of the year. Why? The game allows Star Wars fans to live out their fantasies as Jedi, Sith, members of the Republic or the Empire, as well as infamous Bounty Hunters. GameSpot have recently got their hands on a recent build of the game, playing the the Bounty Hunter class. After a quick briefing with Daniel Erickson, explaining some of the latest changes, GameSpot began their bounty hunting adventures, resulting in a six page article on their experience with the game. If the Bounty Hunter is a class that you're planning to take the reins of, you might want to read their in-depth coverage.

Andrew Park,  Author: Ganden,  BioWare,  Daniel Erickson,  GameSpot,  Star Wars,  Star Wars The Old Republic,  SWTOR,  The Old Republic,  TOR
As an online gaming source and news organisation, GameSpot provide their members and viewers with the latest information on all games across all platforms. This includes BioWare's The Old Republic, where GameSpot had the opportunity for some decent hands-on time with the game. Stay tuned for further updates about this tomorrow. In the meantime, GameSpot's Managing Editor, Andrew Park, interviewed Daniel Erickson about the latest features and updates in The Old Republic.
Daniel Erickson begins talking about some of the latest work that BioWare have put in to the game. He focuses on the multiplayer aspect, where he states that players can sometimes be split up during their questing adventures. This is where a cool new feature comes in to play, and that is the holo-communicator calls. If one player begins a conversation with an NPC, another player in the group can call in and join the banter in the form of a blue hologram. Social points get a mention, which is a feature that has not been discussed previously. These points, earned by taking part in conversations, will eventually allow players to purchase social items. What these items are, we don't know, as Daniel Erickson stated that it would be discussed at a later stage. Social points also allow the player to unlock and select a number of different titles.
Daniel Erickson continues on a number of different topics, so be sure to view the video below.

Expectations of BioWare's upcoming MMO game The Old Republic are on a massive high by not only the community and fans, but also gaming analysts. The game is said to be one of the largest MMOs to date, with the size of 10 sequels to Knights of the Old Republic. Expectations began on a high when two major names joined forces, being BioWare and Star Wars. The fan base of Star Wars alone is enormous, and add to that the BioWare name, which has seen the successful release of a number of roleplaying games such as Mass Effect and Dragon Age, we expect to be blown away.
GameSpot has released an article stating that subscriber numbers of the game will be double of that stated by the CEO of Electronic Arts earlier in the year. The CEO of the game developer and publisher, Electronic Arts, stated that a profit would be made from The Old Republic with just 500,000 subscribers. However, Janco Partners analyst Mike Hickey states that number could be doubled. Hickey believes that The Old Republic could draw in one million subscribers within the first twelve months from launch, generating an intake of $162 million in the first year. All we can say to that is crikey!
Check the GameSpot article for more information.
