Never tell him the odds.

When most people—or at least most Star Wars fans—hear the term "The Force," thoughts of Jedi or Sith doing battle and using their amazing powers immediately come to mind. This is for good reason; in most Star Wars lore the Force and discussions of it are usually centered on those who can manipulate it at their will. But does this always need to be the case? Though a large majority of the universe cannot wield the Force, does this mean they are exempt from its power?

As most of you know, the Force is the life essence that permeates all things in the Star Wars galaxy. Some have a more powerful connection to this powerful energy source and can control—or be controlled—by it. As such, all six films revolve around one family of force wielders and how they are destined to do the will of the Force. But what about the rest of the galaxy? If all beings are part of the Force, why wouldn't the Force play a part in their destiny, large or small? Characters like Han Solo are a great example of this. Though he isn't a force-user, he has performed amazing feats and beaten the odds far beyond simple luck. Surviving a Death Star, an asteroid field (three thousand seven hundred and twenty to one right there alone!), Carbonite freezing, and a death sentence by the most dangerous Hutt in the galaxy. In a galaxy where the Force touches everyone, what's to say that some characters "dumb luck" isn't actually the Force in some manifestation?

So, is this idea of the Force conducive with your character's story or actions? Do you have a character that is very lucky or in some elusive way guided by the Force? Or is the Force even something your character puts a lot of stock in? Are some of your characters guided or protected by the Force, or is it just magic those Jedi folks are playing with? Let us know in the comments below!

Merry 35th anniversary, Force fans!

Today marks Star Wars Day, an annual holiday for nerds who like nerdy things in a galaxy far, far away. Fortunately, this Star Wars Day has a little meat on its bones other than sleepovers and marathons. You guessed right: it's the release of the new Blu-ray collection of everyone's favorite saga! Some folks may not like the Blu-ray versions, but today marks a wonderfully prestigious little accomplishment for the universe. It's the 35th anniversary of Star Wars!

While a lot of the hubbub is about the Blu-ray Discs being boxed and ready to buy throughout the world, Star Wars has had a more far-reaching impact to a lot of people. While nobody wants to hear prattling on about the cliches like that the movies transcend generational barriers and the "used future" concept is really cool and just as applicable now as it was over 30 years ago—they're all true. Star Wars is that timeless piece of awesomeness which has accompanied many throughout childhood, adolescence, and beyond. Which is exactly why there's such a thing as Star Wars Day.

Star Wars is a great thing for a lot of people, and today it's a day to reflect on that. Certain reporters wear their Boba Fett hooded sweatshirts, somebody is quoting Yoda's famous "Do or do not" shtick, and there are still friends and couples who share movie nights with the original trilogy—plastic extendable lightsaber included! The Battle of Hoth still makes people tingle in anticipation, and when the Emperor is thrown down that reactor core and the second Death Star is blown up, the fan in all of us roots for the Rebel Alliance and their triumph. We're glad to be a part of the Star Wars experience!

This day is for all of us who love the legacy of Star Wars, be it past, present, or the future. Whether we like the newer films, the older ones, or everything just as equally, we can all agree that this is a pretty darn good day.

So, from everyone here at SWTOR-RP, let me wish you a jubilant Star Wars Day, and may the 4th be with you!
Reena Am I the only one who read this and went, "What? They released the blu ray collection last year."

Each faction within the Star Wars universe has its greatest weapon. This weapon may be in the form of an individual, a group of people, a structure, or a spiritual entity of sorts. Over the many eras throughout Star Wars history, we've seen super-weapons came and go. During the Galactic Civil War era, the Empire had its Death Star – capable of destroying entire planets. Some may even go as far to say that Darth Vader was the Empire's greatest weapon during his reign as the Emperor's right hand man. For the Alliance to Restore the Republic? It wasn't something as destructible as the Death Star, but it was a mere individual whose presence changed the entire tide of a battle. That man was Luke Skywalker

In The Old Republic, we again see the clash of two super-factions; the Galactic Republic and the Sith Empire. Though a peace treaty has been signed between the two parties, a war is still on the brink of eruption. And when that does happen, what does each side have to use that may gain them the upper hand? Let's forget the Republic for a moment (much to my dismay), as this is Empire week! What do you think is the Empire's greatest weapon against the Republic? That is today's Empire-themed Force Reflection. Does the burden of carrying the Empire in war fall upon one person's shoulders? Tell us your thoughts in the comments section.

Some people don't like to admit it, but sometimes we're capable of some very remarkable and heroic deeds. Whether it be part of your job description or something that happens in the heat of the moment, your actions may be seen by others as courageous and epic. Police Officers, Fire Fighters, Paramedics, Medical Staff, and Military Personnel are just a few examples of people who put their own lives at risk to protect others, as well as displaying gallantry. However, any ordinary individual is more than capable of such an act. People can surprise themselves and others by mustering the strength to achieve greatness in the face of fear.

What good would a character be in Star Wars if they'd never accomplished anything remarkable or heroic? Luke Skywalker would not have been as interesting if he hadn't achieved some of the remarkable things he'd done, such as blowing up the Death Star, defeating the Emperor, or making out with his sister. No, that was awkward, but moving on. As roleplayers, our characters for The Old Republic will need a story. It is the foundation of roleplaying, and without a story, we'd be regular players exchanging words and slander without purpose.

What we'd like to know in today's Force Reflection is what your character for the The Old Republic has done that can be considered remarkable or heroic. Has your character defeated an impossible enemy? Perhaps a decision they've made has saved -- or if you're playing the devil's advocate, killed --thousands of people? Or maybe they've destroyed a Jedi Temple? No, scrap that, unless you want to be shunned. Lacking a story to tell? Here's another opportunity to add to your character's history. Get creative people, and post your stories in the comments section.

The Old Republic Roleplay site has been one of my online homes for the past couple of months; I’ve met a lot of great people here, and really come to appreciate the community, and I feel like I want to give back to it. (My thanks go out to Ganden for giving me the opportunity to do so.) So a few days ago I sat down with a few of my favorite books and films and, as I thought about them, it occurred to me how much in sympathy they are, deep under the skin. Tolkien’s books, especially The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings, are among my favorite works of literature. I’ve played the hell out of LotRO, and even did a year-long blog on it which I called The Long Defeat. So what does that have to do with The Old Republic, right? Well, maybe more than we see at first glance.

We can now use them for texting, emails, surfing the world wide web, playing games, social networking, and even photography. Electronic gadgets are available for all sorts of jobs, whether it be for tradesmen, white collar workers, as well as law enforcement agencies.

In Star Wars, the imagination of the people behind the scenes seems limitless. We've seen many weird and wonderful devices throughout the different eras in Star Wars, ranging from comm devices that can be used across galaxies, healing devices that can patch up some of the nastiest lacerations, as well as little devices that can read the midichlorian counts of an individuals. The stretch of the imagination isn't limited to gadgets, as it extends to weapons as well. We've seen laser swords that can slice through some of the thickest materials, blaster pistols and rifles of different shapes and sizes, as well as weapons on spaceships, capable of destroying entire planets.

In The Old Republic, do you plan on utilising any particular gadgets or weapons, whether it be ones that you've already seen in Star Wars, or new ones you've made up yourselves? That is today's Force Reflection. Post your answers in the comments section.

The economy, government, and military of the Republic throughout Star Wars history has been graced with many leaders from one world in particular, and that world is Corellia. One of the most notable characters that originated from this planet is the reputable Han Solo, who had a major impact on the events that occurred during his lifetime, from the destruction of the first Death Star, to the Battle of Endor, all the way up to the Legacy of the Force series where he still continues to fight for the Republic. In The Old Republic, you will be now have the opportunity to take part in the planet's struggle to rebuild and maintain it's economic stability and infrastructure, as BioWare have announced as part of the latest Friday Feature that Corellia will be included in the game, which is due out in Spring of 2011.

The planet's surface in Coronet City is suffering from destruction, possibly as a result of an act of terrorism, or perhaps due to something much more dire. Corellia is an asset to the Republic, and they will fight to the bitter end to hold on to what's important to them, especially in times of struggle against the Sith Empire, following on from the controversial Treaty of Coruscant. Members of the Republic can expect to take part in the conflict against the unknown enemy of Coronet City.

With the announcement of Corellia in The Old Republic, check out the new HoloNet page, as well as the media section where you can view new screenshots and wallpaper of the new planet. Furthermore, a walkthrough video of Corellia is available for your viewing on the new HoloNet page.
