The sands of Tatooine which glimmer and shine under the hopeful Twin Suns have been stained by violence and corruption. Terror rocks the streets of Anchorhead and its surrounding outposts as the likes of the Czerka Corporation, the Mandalorians, and the Twin Suns spread their chaos amongst the neutral inhabitants of Tatooine. Without the full backing and aid of the Galactic Republic, the citizens are left to fend for themselves. Though not all hope is lost as mercenaries and lone representatives of the galaxy's mega factions swoop in to restore a sense of peace.
Reports from Republic sources have revealed a Czerka-run project with a multi-billion dollar financial backing. Despite being abandoned decades ago, the project is subject to reclamation by Czerka, contrary to the intentions of local authorities, as well as the Republic and Sith Empire. Though Czerka may have the resources to run such an expensive project, the fact that they have refused to elaborate on the project and the reasons for their renewed interest has raised suspicion with the locals and media.

Is it possible to make the perfect warrior? This is the question that has been asked many times since the origin of life, and for a team of intrepid biological engineers brought together by the Galactic Republic, it was the question they had hoped to answer after several millenia and debate. The Salky Hound is certainly not the first of engineered beings to come to popularity, but it is both the most used and the most widespread amongst the galaxy's stars. Designed by "some of the brightest minds" the universe had to offer, the Salky Hound is a miracle melding of modern minds and technology. One of the scientists from the team, Doctor Suruni Colum, offered his words in an interview with the RHN Biolife Report team. " The Salky Hound is the pride and joy of the people who created it. When the Republic recalled the Salky we refused to accept our precious creation to be destroyed." Recently declassified files from the Republic military's research and development team have exposed that the Salky hound was originally an experiment deemed too high risk and cost to continue. The plan from the scientist's superiors was to destroy every specimen and start from scratch.

The Ferrazid hound is as old as Taris itself. Long before Taris became a world-spanning city, it had hunted small birds and lizards, roaming in packs and using the tactics of a semi-intelligent animal in the damp swamps and dense jungles of the future Republic world. Due to their territorial nature, fearsome jaw power, and their tendency to stay in packs they never, truly, had a predator in the old pre-colonization Taris. Taris did not remain a moist jungle world, and as time went on and colonization arrived, the entire planet evolved from a jungle of trees and animals to one of humanoids and buildings reaching kilometers into the bleak Tarisian sky. The Golden Age of Taris made many species extinct, some of them not having so much as DNA samples left in a beaker by the time of the first Sith occupation during the Jedi Civil War. Indeed, the century-long Golden Age which made small villages into towering, cloud-capped skyscrapers killed more than it created. The Ferrazid's natural hunting grounds were destroyed—what little remained in the 'undercity' became infested with Rakghouls. The few males and females gathered before the industrial boom were thrown into zoos to appease xenobiologists who were not in favor of the native species being driven to extinction due to humanoid nature.

As an independent organisation, the Hutt Cartel runs its operations on worlds which have seceded from the Galactic Republic and Sith Empire's control. The Cartel is a syndicate of a number of different Hutt clans spread throughout worlds which they've laid claim to, including their homeworld of Hutta, and the crown jewel of the underworld: Nar Shaddaa.
Though the Hutt Cartel may be a chain of clan alliances, their access to an almost unlimited supply of resources and credits causes rifts and feuds which, once settled, leaves traces of blood, deception, and greed splattered across the Hutt-controlled worlds.
Turf wars and personal vendettas are no small feat of the Hutt Cartel. The streets of Nar Shaddaa and Hutta are filled with gangsters and mobsters who are subject to territorial engagements, assassination attempts, theft, and black market deals.
Sources have revealed that the rivalry between Nem'ro the Hutt and Fa'athra the Hutt are evidently to blame for the bloodshed which, still to this day, takes place in the streets of Hutta.
Citizens are encouraged to avoid any business dealings on Hutta which is reportedly the heart of an ongoing battle for power and control.

Organized crime has been a part of societies in fiction the world over, and the expansive universe of Star Wars is no exception. Be it the conniving minds of the slug-like Hutts, or the insidious deeds of the multi-racial Exchange, criminal activity in The Old Republic booms unabated and largely unchallenged. The efforts against it seem only a momentary fix; a minor lapse in the disease of crime currently engulfing the galaxy uncontested. Between the two struggling galactic superpowers, the criminals grow like roaches in a den of filth.
In today's Force Reflection, I ask you to tell us what your character will do in pertinence to the criminal activity of The Old Republic. The current level of crime in the galaxy is staggering, with both the ailing Galactic Republic and ever-looming Sith Empire combating the eruptions of lawlessness and felony within their territories. Be it through the virtues of the righteous Jedi or the wrath of the vengeful Sith, crime feels the power of these two political giants—yet still it exists, unstoppable, undaunted. From the barely-policed worlds of the Outer Rim to the city-scape terraces of the Core Worlds, crime's toxic influence maintains its presence in body and mind.
How will your character treat the criminal opportunities inherently available in Star Wars: The Old Republic? Will they work towards the furthering of personal goals at the expense of others and sacrifice the weak in an effort to increase their own infamy? Will they instead fight against the corrupt and the lawless, striking down all those who would seek to disrupt social flow with their faulty moral compasses and lusty dreams of loot? Perhaps you will take the neutral path and intervene only when it is believed to be the required course of action, believing instead in a maintained balance between the lawful citizen and lawless felon.
As heroes in The Old Republic, our actions can change much of the world around us and the way it functions. So how will you, as a roleplayer, seek to influence this aspect of the Galaxy? The ball is in your court, and your choice liberates or condemns the galaxy!

Game Update 1.2 keeps getting closer, and with it, the introduction of The Old Republic's Legacy System. While other MMOs have global chat systems and names, no other major online game has gone as far as TOR in connecting our characters. The idea was one BioWare has had since the game's inception, since many of the great Star Wars characters are linked by blood. Darth Vader revealing himself to be Luke's father remains one of the best twists in movie history, but how does that work for roleplay in TOR? It's a little hard to wrap your head around at first. Despite the available races being near-human or humanoid, there's still a lot of variation between a Twi'lek and a Chiss. How exactly would they breed, if it's even possible? The good news is the developers thought of that too, and you can add your characters instead as allies or adversaries to the central family tree.
While you can take the last name off those characters and have them show a legacy title instead, it does mean that you're losing out on last names for your alts, and it's a lot better than living without last names at all as we originally feared. In addition, I don't think it's some sort of ploy by BioWare, but if you really want to have more then one last name, you can always make two accounts. You can also intentionally misspell or use accented letters if you want to share last names with another player, though supposedly we'll be able to share legacies officially someday. While it's a great gameplay feature, the system is a bit shaky for RPers, especially since it will be mandatory to unlock RP emote packs. So lets jump in and discuss how legacy stands up to roleplaying expectations in this week's The Darker Side of Life.

Majority of people deal with people of a superior social and economic standing to them on a daily basis, whether it be through work, or at home dealing with parents and older siblings. In a work environment where an autocratic style of leadership is in existence, any direction given by a member of higher rank—as long as its in good faith of the job iteself—must be followed. Questioning or disobeying these directions can lead to disciplinary and managerial action. On the contrary, a workplace that adopts a diplomatic style of leadership, such as an office workplace with no clear rank or hierarchy structure, is a lot less strict in regards to directions given by those that hold managerial positions.
In today's Force Reflection, tell us what your character thinks of their leaders. Do they despise their bosses? Do they fear them? Perhaps your character couldn't be happier under the current leadership. Let us know in the comments section.

There are two main legal systems that operate around the world today. The first system adopts the rule of presuming innocence until proven guilty. What this means is, the onus is on the prosecution to ensure that whatever the crime or charges may be, they must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt for the defendant to be found guilty. If a reasonable doubt exists in the minds of the jury or judge, depending on which court a trial is heard at, the matter will be dismissed with the defendant found not guilty. Seems like an easy escape, right? Well, in some countries, the legal system is much to the contrary where you are found guilty until proven innocent. Straight to to the firing line!
You may be wondering, "What on earth does this have to do with Star Wars and The Old Republic?" Other than the fact that most judges these days seem to take grooming advice from the older Obi-Wan Kenobi, the idea of imposing a legal system into The Old Republic may be quite difficult. As roleplayers, we'll be put in situations where members of our own faction, whether it be the Galactic Republic or Sith Empire, will commit an act which proves unlawful or contradictory to the practices of that particular faction. Perhaps this situation may arise whilst questing with the many non-player characters throughout BioWare's virtual world in The Old Republic, and the question stands as to what you would do as a character in the Star Wars universe.
For today's Force Reflection, let us know whether your character for The Old Republic will be acting as their own judge and jury. Will you take matters into your own hands, dishing out your own penalties and punishments by way of decapitation? Or will you submit criminals through your faction's judicial system? Let us know your thoughts on the matter in the comments section. Order! Order! No, just kidding. Carry on!

The profitable exchange of living beings is once again running rampant amongst the industries on Nar Shaddaa. Humans, Twi'leks, and any other beings capable of serving a master are susceptible to losing all their free will and succumbing to a life of slavery.
Slave trading is not a secret industry. It has been operating since the birth of the Galactic Republic, predominantly on independent worlds controlled by the Hutts. Though the Republic condemns all activity of trading slaves, the Sith Empire's presence on worlds like Nar Shaddaa has given the industry and its operators a rapid boost.
The ubiquitous industry extends to worlds such as Tatooine and Hutta. However, independent research indicates that the Hutt Cartel and the Nar Shaddaa Labor Alliance have established Nar Shaddaa as the capital of slave trading.
"Nar Shaddaa is a neutral planet," says the Chief of The Promenade's local authority. "The planet is controlled by the Hutts, not the Republic, nor the Sith Empire. Therefore, we are not bound by their laws."
Reports indicate that businessmen display living property for inspection. In addition, they provide security-controlled transport, as well as short and long term carbonite storage services.

Picture this: you walk up upon fifty or more spectators and competitors swarming the Promenade for one of the biggest events of the week. There is betting going on and people milling about, the conversations get going, then all of the sudden a flare gun goes off and all your attention is drawn away to the lone person in the middle of the arena. This is it the moment of truth; the crowd grows quiet as the first words are spoken.
What started out as the Republic and Empire having separate nights to show off their skills has spawned into a spectacular event of the best of the best. Sponsored by the Jung Ma Jumping Beans host, Akrili has brought the standard of fight nights to an all new high in our universe. The double elimination matches pit one against another to show just who will come out on top and prove to you they have the skills to hold all others off.
